Are your friends Franklin and Grant burning a Curve-sized hole in your pocket? Here's an idea: take 'em on down to your local T-Mobile shop and exchange them for an actual
8900 and the next two years of your life. Deal? Looks like the unwashed masses (read: non-business customers) will be able to pick up the latest and greatest non-3G BlackBerry for a penny shy of $150 on contract, or -- if you can stomach it -- a whopping $649.99 contract-free. Choose wisely.
[Thanks, anonymous tipster]
Update: It should be noted that this is out of Best Buy's inventory system, which -- as we've seen in the past -- has a tendency to
totally bone the contract-free pricing. Have faith that it'll actually be a bit less.

Looks like something is amiss with this display. In the UPGRADES section (right side) the pricing seems to indicate that if you upgrade for two years it will cost you $299 but if you only upgrade for one year the phone is free. If that's the case T-Mo is really sticking it to customers for signing on long-term. I'm guessing there is a mistake here.
Derek @ Feb 9th 2009 10:15PM
They might not have updated it when you posted, but that's because that's Best Buy's price sheet.
Direct from T-Mobile, I believe the phone should be $499 without a contract, don't hold me to that though. I think contract price might be $249 through T-Mobile because if you go on T-Mobile.com and show all the BlackBerry phones, at the $200+ price point, that's where the 8900 is. So I'm thinking it will be $249 on a 2-year contract.

Uhh... why not just call T-Mobile?
I did. They said I could order one today if I wanted. The price (for a two-year contract extension) is $249, but they will break it down into four $75 payments.
Derek @ Feb 9th 2009 11:24PM
You know $75 x 4 is $300, right?
Fanandualum @ Feb 9th 2009 11:45PM
well... didja order the freggin' thing?
henry @ Feb 10th 2009 12:38AM
still kind of a crock of shit if existing customers are gonna have to pay $100 more than new customers. where's the love tMob?
Alex @ Feb 10th 2009 12:05AM
I got mine for 199.99 on a 2 year contract! If they really do charge 149.99 I'm going to be pissed! I'm going to call them up and make them refund me for it!
BurnTees @ Feb 10th 2009 3:04PM
same here...had mine for about a week (love it!), but paid $299 before $100 mail in rebate (which i need to do!)
Tito @ Feb 10th 2009 12:44AM
Am I missing something or does it look like new customers with a 5-line Family plan can walk out with 5 8900s for 299.98? It says 2 year agreement is 149.99 but then says lines 3-5 are free?
Gabriel @ Feb 10th 2009 10:56AM
order mine on the 9th. shippin within 7 days.To bad it wasn't my 2 year mark. I paid 429.99. Sixty dollars off. plus a rebate that Ive been waitin for on my wife's curve. not bad

I just called TMO as I knew I would be eligible for a full upgrade but I wanted to find out the best price I would get. $199.99. ($299.99 (spread over 4 pmts) minus $100 MIR). I was told they will have the phones at the local TMO store on 2/11/09 and I could pick it up there. Love my 8320 and really looking forward to an 8900. I'll be there when they open. lol.

su3ng @ Feb 10th 2009 9:57PM
Hey they are free with a 1 year upgrade? Cool that's how I got 2 free sk slides last year better hurry because I went to a different bb and they cover up these prices. Don't believe me I made post on howard forums about it and post my receipt. Too bad bbs are soooo boring and slooooow.
Carl @ Feb 11th 2009 12:59AM
Yeah, I also got mine through Customer Care for the frequently-mentioned $299 less $100 MIR, and I'm pretty pleased. One tip about the prepaid VISA rebate card you'll get: I find it easy to use this in one setting with car insurance companies. I have GEICO and used to have Progressive, and both will let you simply apply the full amount of a prepaid card to your account (even if it results in a credit, I think). That's easy for me to do online as soon as the card arrives *rather than* trying to spend it in a restaurant, grocery, etc and sometimes ending up with an amount below $1 that can never be used due to failed credit card authorizations or large holds on funds.

Talk about being boned for being a long time customer. Amazon is offering the phone for $99 with 2yr after mail in rebate. Only for new contracts. Us loyalist get to pony up an extra Benjamin for the joy of having the latest.
Eric Crist @ Feb 12th 2009 3:57PM
I just ordered the phone through customer service. $179.99, no MIR to worry about, and they're spreading the payment across four months. On top of that, my cell plan is now available for $30 less per month. All in all, I'm paying $10 *more* for the next four months than normal, and saving $30 a month for the next two years.
jkershner @ Feb 14th 2009 3:29PM
I never worry about the contract, it's only like $200.00 to cancel it anyways.
Freddie @ Feb 26th 2009 1:47PM
All:
Call TMobile customer service after 3/1/09 they are announcing new rate plans. FYI
