Toshiba TG01 GUI, video playback demoed on film
We just saw Toshiba's newest, Snapdragon boasting, offering -- the TG01 -- bust onto the scene, and now we're catching some demo action, too. We're not really expecting to get any alone time with the device until it's unveiled at MWC in Barcelona, so Slashgear's impressions will have to do for now. They seem pretty satisfied overall with the GUI, are "not convinced" about the device's resistive touchscreen's (and lack of buttons) potential for gaming, but the 1GHz CPU and 800 x 400 display seem to impress. The screen looks pretty frustrating to use, but check the GUI video demo after the break for yourself, and hit the read link for two other, in-depth peeks.

I think he gave up after the first few tries. The screen is not even responsive.
Is just the same old winMO, it is trying to replicate HTC's TouchFLO cube which is now outdated!

Not so "snappy", IMO!

ok first, camera man, meet the focus button. he is your friend. learn to love him instead of relying on auto, who seems to be more preoccupied with focussing on your reflection instead of the gui.
and second, you'd figure that a phone with 1ghz proccessor would be just a tad bit snappier. just a little.

Phone makers: WINDOWS MOBIL SUCKS. It is slow and buggy. Use s60 or something unique. And get with the times and use a capacitive touch screen. No more old tech.
This is another crappy phone, give us more info on the pre!

Yeah resistive touchscreens are crap if you try to use them iPhone style, but tbh I think it's mostly the fact he's holding it in a weird way for the camera.

What a horrible UI.
Why would they make those icons he was trying to tap so small and close together?
And whats with those weird colors?

This thing is a bimbo: looks nice but it's not too smart (or smartly designed, either). The crappy WinMo OS is visible right in the design of the top-screen calendar, with icons so tiny that they're not responsive to finger taps. And swipes don't seem to work so well, either.
The 3D interface over top of WinMo is just a case of putting lipstick on a pig.

Where the heck are all the "I gotta get me one of those!" comments. It's amazing that nobody is calling this the next iPhone killer. It's got some pretty nice hardware, a slim design and a high-definition screen. But what did they do? They slapped WinMo on it and instantly relegated it to the middle of the pack. It could certainly use Android in place of WinMo. I suppose there still is a chance of that.

I want one. A capacitive screen would be nice. But I'm sure apple would sue if it had multi-touch. Or any other phone has it. Sure winmo needs to change, but the iphone is not the end-all be-all phone. Android has that possibility, it's just not there yet.

Yee Haw -- Just stopped from buying Omnia so I can see if Verizon is going to get the TG01.
And Windows Mobile too! What more can I ask for?
