T-Mobile dude promises more 'G series' phones this year
In an interview with FierceWireless, T-Mobile USA's senior VP of engineering and operations (and newly-minted chairman of 3G Americas' board) Neville Ray has slipped a couple juicy morsels in the process of talking up his carrier's ongoing 3G rollout. Besides mentioning that T-Mobile wants to double its 3G footprint in 2009, Ray says that "we will be launching more G series phones and other products... in the coming weeks and months." If we had to guess, this probably (hopefully) has something to do with that HTC Sapphire we've seen floating around lately. What's more, you'll see T-Mobile start to ramp up peripheral support this year -- gotta monetize that multi-billion-dollar network somehow -- with a modem launch. All told, these guys still have a long way to catch up in the 3G race with Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint -- but if you want bleeding-edge Android stuff, looks like they'll continue to be your best bet for a while.

Hopefully???
You actually "hope" the Sapphire is the G2?
Okay @ Jan 30th 2009 2:29PM
Saphire = eew
But, if the Rhodium runs Android it will be awesome. However, I heard (from this webpage) that it won't :(

Android has got to be released on more carriers and on more phones soon if it is going to be a viable smart phone platform. It is ridiculous that there still is only one Android phone in the US and its on T-Mobile (nothing against T-Mobile, I would probably be using them if it worked everywhere I needed it to). There's getting to be less and less breathing room for newcomers and at this point Android is still a newcomer.

T-Mobile may be the only US carrier, but globally Android is still continuing to spread on new devices, new manufactures, other than T-Mobile internationally, other countries will spread Android via their carriers, but in the US only T-Mobile.

I think you're right, but it's a little humorous that we can't say "In order for OS X to be a viable smart phone platform it has to be released on more carriers and handsets..."

Everyone is knocking on the G2 when its only been seen on Mr Blurry Cam, Lets all just wait and see when it comes out and have it in our hands, then make our conclusions. Once a Phone is in your hands that's when we either love it or hate it with any phone.

Yes. Let's wait until we feel the chin, before we knock the chin....

Lack of physical keyboard on "smartphone" = automatic failure.

Anyone know what the Sapphire's screen resolution is? I haven't found any site wtih that info yet. Hopefully it's WVGA...I've got a friend on TMo who's dying for an Android phone on decent hardware. I'm on Sprint, so I'm hoping for a Touch HD with Android. C'monnnnn....
TareX @ Jan 31st 2009 7:25AM
According to the screen grabs, HVGA, just like the G1.
yeah I know.

Android = Linux and is for a very select market. TMO must put out a WM 3g phone to be competitive. Hopefully WM6.5 is not so damn clunky.

Has anyone, anywhere, talked about the Rhodium, Android and T-Mobile? Personally, I love the concept of Android, fan of HTC, but hate the look of the G1. And in my area, T-Mobile has the best deals hands down. So I'm in a difficult position that has forced me to just wait.
And the Saphire just looks like an updated G1 (G2). It looks a little better, but I still don't like it.
That Rhodium however, looks pretty nice. But I'm wondering if theres actually any cause for them including it in this article?

Good news for android fans.
For those of us waiting for a Wing update in windows flavor, it's off to another carrier unfortunately.
