Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 gets firmware update

XDA-Developers forum member PavelX1 has posted up info on a pile of XPERIA X1 updates he glimpsed on EMMA (Sony Ericsson's official service software). ROM version has migrated from 1.02.936.3 to 1.03.936.6 and is labeled as R2A. Of course, there's no word on what the official changes are but first reports say the X1 now boots quicker and attaches to network faster. Apparently the SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) isn't quite telling the truth when users are attempting to grab at the update, but proceeding through and updating anyway seems to be doing the trick. Usual cautionary advice from us is to read before attacking this as an ounce of precaution is worth a pound of cure.

Far too little extremely too late to save the wreck of the X1.
This phone has been sold in Danemark since mid December and the danish equvalent of craigslist (DBA) is crowded with folks desperate to get rid of it at huge lossess and still finding no takers.
No wonder: Htc touch HD, touch pro, touch dual 3G, cruise, Samsung Omnia, LG Renoir ,etc are all much better and readily found in every mall at a cheaper price unlocked, or at a minimal fraction of the price if subsidized by a carrier.
All carriers refused to offer the X1 subsidized, even though they readily give away all kind of smartphones, MIDs and netbooks (from 9 to 12 inches) to anyone signing for 6 months mobile breadband, because of reliability concerns.
A recent review on one of the most autoritative scandinavian tech blogs named the worst win mobile smartphone on the market today.
SE and HTC are quarrelling about who's fault it is that what had been heralded one year ago as a superphone turned out to be a superturd, but the only smart move SE could do to save what's left of its shattered credibility would be to recall all this pieces of overpriced junk and get to work on something that actually works.

What the heck are you talking about? I love my X1, just as several of my co-workers do too.

I haven't played with the X1 but from what I hear, it's a decent phone in comparison to the ones that Kilgore stated. However, when you release a smartphone a year after it's target ETA at a price that's almost (if not) double what your competition are offering for similar, you're just shooting yourself in the foot. To have let it sit stale that long and still have significant UI problems on top of everything else is unforgivable.
Hopefully they won't be so stupid with the X2. Glad I grabbed the Touch Pro and didn't wait for this one...

I have the X1, and yea it has issues.
Not many more issues than other phones at launch, but the problem is the fact that SE waited so damn long to roll out an update.
This update better work wonders :|
Oh and warning to Vista users... The update program might screw your computer over, unless they've fixed that.
Nippero @ Jan 26th 2009 10:28PM
Seems like SEUS is actually working for people on vista in that thread.. so hmm iono.

Nah I wouldn't recommend using SEUS. Just flash it yourself with the image file and RUU (at least RUU lets you resume if an error happens). SEUS is trash and the chances that your phone will become bricked is substantial; even more so when running on Vista.

kilgoretrout, What are you talking about?
The xperia x1 is the best phone of all
1st the best sound quality trough your headphones even better than all ipods
2nd it has a real gpu from ATI with 128mb(for this year because there are going to be real games just like need for speed and stuff.playstation 2: 32mb xbox: 64 mb so we are going to have a blast playing the games on the xperia don't see one of the competitors to the same trick)
3rd it will support 32gb sdhc i already have 16gb
of course there are some bugs here and there but we all know that at the end of the 2nd season it wil run perfect
And the price is so perfect at this moment
so my advice please check your sources before you criticise;)

Actually, it is ODM by HTC.......

@romeo - Yep all you said is true however.
1 - Bluetooth still has issues on the new FW (e.g. go out of range of a bluetooth stereo device and the phone locks up).
2 - Bluetooth does not remember the settings of the device it is connected to, so on next connect you have to manually reconfigure the x1 to use it.
3 - GPRS/Edge/HSDPA randomly fail to connect on the new FW. Which is sorta better than the old, as at least 3/3.5g connections sometimes work now
4 - Keyboard keys either do not respond, double key or tripple key. This is becoming a huge problem for me as the keyboard is now unusable. Also this is being reported by a larger number of people every day. SE response has been so fat that it is normal wear and tear and will not be repaired under warranty.

I have`nt heard it before about the bluetooth problem
but i can use the stereo bluetooth headset with no problems
and it also connects automaticly the next time i use it
and about that keyboard i also had that problem before the update but it is fixed now
and opera is the standard browser now :D

I'm just trying to update my X1 after a series of difficulties and random crashes and hangs. The online update utility from SE fails utterly when I attempt to run it in Vista and flashing it from the downloaded image has just bricked it. I went off SE seriously after the disaster that was the Sony Z7 and the Ericsson T18-S. Yes that was a long time ago, no, I am not convinced that the merger of Sony and Ericsson has done anything to improve the situation, no I won't be buying another SE phone.
