T-Mobile customers having some luck getting myFaves for free
myFaves is cool -- you might even argue that it's T-Mobile USA's trademark. Thing is, it ain't free. The way the myFaves logo is displayed prominently on virtually every device T-Mobile sells these days, you'd think it's just part and parcel with every plan the carrier offers, but it's actually $10 more for an equivalent individual plan with myFaves tacked on. That's an even bigger problem for existing subscribers, some of whom are on age-old grandfathered plans that aren't offered anymore and are growing a little tired of using the "no, you can't be in my fave 5 simply because I don't have a fave 5" excuse. There's a light at the end of the tunnel, though: some folks are having luck getting T-Mob to add myFaves into the mix at no cost through a combination of groveling, account status, and possibly re-upping a contract. Pulling favors with your carrier always seems to be one-third art, one-third science, and one-third black magic, so if you're good with all three of those, give it a shot -- just don't blame us if the CS rep misinterprets you and adds two lines, an E8, and a bunch of refurb Sidekick iDs to your account.

A friend of mine sent this along because he heard FOTA might have something to do with mobile phones, which I'm kind of into.
Can't figure it out if he's for real or not but since he mentions you thought I'd pass it along.

I am one of those lucky ones I guess. Have 4 phones on the Family Plan, was able to add My-Faves to all 4 lines, but had to agree to a new 2 year agreement on all 4 phones (not a problem as we are quite happy and intend to stay with T-Mobile). Was told that cost of our original family plan would remain the same (no increase in price for adding My-Faves), and was also told that it would not effect any phone upgrades (should we decide to do that - I plan on my BB 8320 with an 8900 when they become available).

Worked for me, no groveling required. I called and plainly asked for it and they took care of the rest. No contract extension, but I'm already under contract for the next 21 months and I've been with T-mobile for 7 years.

H-Bomb, check again, your only 3 months into your contract, likely they extended it back to 24.
As for every person Ive spoken to... 2 Year Renewal, but no one I talked to was eligable for a new phone. Additionally, if there is a renewal anyway, I think that you should have just changed to a MyFaves plan and stopped being cheap. Better yet, why not just have Alltel-Verizon and get a Circle plan?

Same here...no problem.
The steps I took were:
611
At the voice prompt I said "Cancel". This immediately put me to customer retensions
A nice rep answered...I said "I'd like to sign up for free MyFaves" promotion
I was told I'd have to extend for 24 months - not a prob since I just did it in October after I got G1.
I confirmed via an automated system
1 minute later the plan was on
after about 3 minutes an sms came in and My Faves icon appeared on G1's screen
Now I'm a happy camper with 1000 NW for $39 plus unlimited G1 Data / SMS and MyFaves.
So as you see....it's a no brainer.

If you guys got it for nothing, congratulations because T-Mobile has said that it is not supposed to be given out for free - however, if you are willing to sign up for another 2 years, they might be willing to work with you.
I kid you not, the bulletin said something to the effect of "There has been an issue with T-Mobile customers calling up and asking for MyFaves for free because other customers have called in and have posted they have gotten this promotion on the Internet." So it STRICTLY says now that no free MyFaves promotion should be given out without a contract extension. Just a heads up for all you guys.

I called in and spoke with a rep and told them I was "told by another T-Mo subscriber I could get MyFaves for free, but was just going on their word that they didn't have to change their plan" (Giving the benefit of the doubt just in case), they said it's an option for those "who have been having issues with keeping within their minutes or are borderline in doing so as part of a customer service initiave", but since I have been doing well with my minutes and most of mine are either t-mo to t-mo (Since I have a family plan) or evening/weekend, they said looking into this option wouldn't really be a good idea since it "has other stipulations". while they Didn't go into detail what the stipulations were, they were very friendly about it and said I would be best to stick with the plan I have now unless I think I will be making a large number of calls that don't fall in my limits soon.
