Palm's CDMA Treo Pro gets FCC approval
We watch more FCC filings than we do episodes of Deal Or No Deal. Okay, that's not entirely true, but we watch our fair share of RF approvals -- and needless to say, when we saw a Palm handset cross the wires the day of the Pre announcement, we'd immediately assumed it was the approved device. On further analysis, though, it turns out that we're actually looking at the CDMA version of the Treo Pro, a phone that's been rumored for Sprint for a hot minute now. Actually, we're pretty shocked it wasn't announced at CES along with the Pre -- anxiety that the announcement would be totally eclipsed and buried by the Pre buzz, maybe. At any rate, we'd expect it to break cover pretty shortly at this point.

... And all the resident, transparent Sprint shills said "Amen'. ;)

i really dont understand why Sprint would get this too now. the 800w has been out for a while now so if the Pro cannibalizes that, it's not really a big deal i guess. but if the Pro and Pre release close together, i dont see how the Pro could hold it's own against the Pre. maybe they think the designs are aimed at different markets, but with features like Synergy on the Pre, it seems just as business oriented as any other Palm phone (it's looks may appeal more to the "iPhone crowd" but it's a business phone at heart). i dont know, maybe im missing something (WinMo vs. webOS?), or maybe it's going to another CDMA carrier or something (Verizon/Alltel). my mind is almost made up now though, so even if the Pro comes to Verizon, i still think i'll jump ship for the Pre.

The Pro will do well. The 800w has lots of poor reviews from problems and this is the one that fixed the problems. It is 100% for Sprint. Documentation by Sprint was leaked last week or so. Sprint and Palm still need a window mobile devices for business and corporate power users.
You don't "cannibalize" if you have competition and both Sprint and Palm have serious competition. Pre is for smartphone hoi polloi until proven. Once the operating system is proven, about six months (Nov/Dec) after it is actually out (April/May), you may see significant adoption by business.
I don't think you need to "jump ship for the Pre, if it doesn't have major bugs Verizon is in line to pick it up two or three months later, that is Palm's standard "exclusive" with Sprint or visa versa. There are too many former Sprint users who went to Verizon and won't ever come back for Palm to bank on the considerably smaller Sprint only.
Not everyone needs the power of Windows Mobile, or can put up with its complexities and minor, but you wont see large corporate buying of the Pre with a spanking new OS.
I use an 800w. Lots of problems. Battery life is very bad. The Pro has a much bigger battery. There are lots of fixes to bugs that never were fixed in firmware and the Pro also is significantly thinner. It will be the healthy seller for Sprint for the target group that the 800w failed..

I wish that this Pro would come out for Verizon... Looked at the review on Phoen Areana . com and really loved it.
And if it does when can Verizon customers expect to see in the stores.
