PCD says new AT&T Quickfire, T-Mobile Sidekicks coming this year
We guess PCD's deal is that they just don't care about the traditional secrecy surrounding product pipelines. The company -- which does nothing more than run interference between carriers and second-tier manufacturers -- chronically leaks its own gear with booth graphics at trade shows, and now they've casually mentioned that there'll be a "couple" new Sidekicks coming to T-Mobile in 2009. It's about time that Danger and Sharp got together to make one of these things with 3G and / or WiFi, so that'd be cool. Also name-dropped is a new version of the Quickfire for AT&T, which seems a bit odd considering the first version just launched and already features 3G, a big touchscreen, and full QWERTY, so it's a bit unclear what they could bring to the table here. Next year, PCD expects to offer some WinMo- and Linux-based stuff (as always) and roll out some of the first devices packing LTE. PCD, we still don't entirely understand your raison d'être, but if you can seriously give us some LTE gear early next year, you've sold us.

PCD does Sidekicks? I thought it was Danger...

Remember the Motorola Sidekick Slide? Danger just makes software and controls the brand, they don't have hardware engineers.

I think is sharp, this thing seems ugly and old, why ppl like sidekick so much?

@ icchan
The thing pictured up there is a slideclick ( a children's SMS toy), if thats what you meant :p
If that isn't what you meant, I love the look of the sidekicks. In fact, if this sidekick has wifi and some kind of application store, I'm all in.

flame, thats the point, no wifi, no 3g, no full customize cellphone, just to send sms and call and the battery is a pain in the arse.

people like the sidekick because, for the most part, it looks cool and it a fairly easy phone to use. It's not completely customizable but there are tons of customization the latest versions can do. One in particular is that you can pick a notification sound when you receive a text from a particular person, something WinMo lacks out of the box. In addition, you can find an AIM/Yahoo/MSN client that matches what is on the sidekicks. It's the only software that will keep you signed on and receiving IM's if you lose service, then send them to you once you get your service back. It has its downs, but a whole lot of ups. Unfortunately, I never got one because I don't like T-Mo, I like WinMo and touchscreens.

Microsoft bought Danger...so it may be a sidekick running a dumb-down version of WinMo 6.x plus a touchscreen and Zune...

Maybe PCD means a firmware update to the quickfire? I have one and would love to see the screen more responsive. IT also lacks such basic features as threaded messaging and "locked" messages
