Engadget rocks!

Man, I always loved the form-factor of the Touch Dual, except for the small screen. I wish there is a Windows mobile phone like this Palm Pre, with WVGA and a slider QWERTY or original Touch dual 20-keys keyboard

i really love the UI design. It seems REALLY thought out and seems like a great competitor to the iPhone. However, i hate the look of the device itself. Either way, I doubt I would get this immediately, GSM version wont be out for awhile I bet, and when it does if i wait a bit longer maybe they'll release something more to my liking. Glad I didnt jump on that Palm Centro yet =D

"REALLY thought out" indeed. it only took them... FOREVER!!! but better late than never.

You got lowest-ranked just for having your own opinion of what an iPhone killer is. What a crappy group.
An iPhone killer is any handset that looks, feels and works even close to an iPhone (the Meizu M8, HTC Touch Diamond, Google G1, etc). Companies have been trying the same thing for years with an iPod killer. This Palm seems to be a very decent handset outright and shouldn't need to be considered an iPhone killer. I'm sure it will have decent sales unless the smartphone industry collapses.
Ed Colligan says this device is better than the iPhone. I think he meant it has better hardware. Still, this Pre isn't anywhere's near production, so it's praise is rather Pre-mature. I'm sure it's has great potential, but only time will tell if it comes close to rivaling the iPhone in sales or popularity. Being that it's a slider with a keyboard already makes it more complicated to build than an iPhone. I think the Pre looks great and has nice hardware. You know it will run background apps, have copy/paste and video recording which is a given on any platform except the iPhone.
If this new OS is as good as they say it is then Palm will have some success. Palm will still have to keep customers satisfied if any problems arise. The iPhone may not have great hardware, but Apple does offer the whole package in terms of customer support.
The Pre is a potential iPhone killer as far as it's usefulness goes, but it will never come close to iPhone popularity and sales. Palm will just have to settle for the Pre to stop the company from going out of business.

What is the definition of the "iphonekiller"?
is it selling 1 million in 72 hours in USA .?
is it being a revolutionary all touchscreen cell that some manufacturers still can't match 2 years later,?
Is it a phone that has set the standard by which all touchphones are measured?
is it a cell that sent all major cell manufacturers into a crazy frenzy to quickly go back to drawing board n create their own iPhone clone?
Is it a phone that has created more buzz worldwide than any other cell in history,?
Ask yourself in order to earn the coveted title, will pre do all these, if so then yes it can be called that.,unfortunately we won't know the answer till 72 hours after palm launch

Well said, I'm tired of hearing all this "iPhone Killer" nonsense!
Albanian_Killa @ Jan 10th 2009 11:00AM
iPhone has an amazing touchscreen and great apps. That's all it has. It has a crap camera, lack of some standard features all phones have. Apps for other cell phones exist. Get the touch screen right and you got yourself an iPhone killer. iPhone just has the brand name behind it. To the standard consumer, the iPhone is the best phone because of what they've heard from hype. I bet you I can find cell phones with touch screens that can beat its features.

What is the definition of an opinion?
is it something that is based on personal feeling and cannot be proven, but presents itself as fact anyways?
Ask yourself if your post sounds like this. If it does, it's an opinion, and you're probably a troll.

Well said.
Everyone's quick to call something a "such and such killer"...I was @ CES and heard it a few times, mainly calling their own brands the top brand killer, whether it be iPhone, Flip video, or whatever else killer.
Until anyone can step up and be able to achieve those things you listed, then and only then should we discuss if it is a "killer." People are so quick to tout something when it is barely proven.

Ya gotta laugh your ass off at all the web coverage here though. It's like screaming at your 2-Month old child ... "WALK, DAMNIT ... WAAAAALK".
This new toy changes nothing for the outlooks of Palm/Sprint. Hopefully this helps usher in a new parent company for both who has a global clue of how to provide desirable solutions from every aspect.
It's always disturbing to watch someone die. You'll get over it.

Stupifying corporate [Sprint & Palm] arrogance run amuck!

Devin @ Jan 11th 2009 6:17PM
What do you even mean?
The link you posted talks about the Palm Pre's availability in Europe. The article closes by saying the Pre might be $550 unlocked for GSM and $399 on Sprint. The last line says "This has never been by Palm or anyone associated with the company.
How bout this because I say so.
The Palm Pre with be $39.99 Unlocked GSM and $24.99 on Sprint. Note: None of this has been confirmed by Palm, Sprint, or anyone associated with the companies.
backbeat @ Jan 16th 2009 1:00PM
The source for the pricing/availability info, for the US and EU, was none other than the Palm Europe VP of Sales, Paul Ghent.
Idiot.
Jose HC @ Jan 12th 2009 3:44PM
I started out as not being extremely excited about the Pre... but with a lot of the hype (is it just that?) I at least would give it a try. As I mention over at our site, http://m-strat.org/webos-palm-pre-and-enterprise-mobility/, it will be a while before it is Enterprise ready. And we'll have to wait for it to come to Canada...
Cheers,
Jose
