T-Mobile bringing the BlackBerry Curve 8900 in February
Sprint's now officially holding up the tail end of the BlackBerry train in the States (though hopefully not for long) now that T-Mobile has announced that the thoroughly modern Curve 8900 is hitting the lineup. Like the 8320 before it, the 8900 does WiFi for UMA-based HotSpot calling service and a 3.5mm headphone jack, but the similarities end there; besides arguably becoming the hottest BlackBerry in RIM's stable, the 8900 features a 3.2-megapixel cam with image stabilization and a glorious 480 x 360 display that'll put anything shy of a Storm to shame. Look for it next month -- T-Mobile hasn't committed to a date, though we have no reason to doubt the 11th rumor at this point.

What do you need 3G for? What kind of emails exactly are you reading that require that kind of bandwidth? It has wifi if you really can find a suitable use for it.

Attachments, google maps, web surfing, finding phone numbers/addresses/locations/etc over an EDGE connection is painful, especially if you need to find something quick. Pulling up weather, radar maps can be very slow as well. I personally use blackberries for much more than just email. Just email itself is fine with EDGE, but other features can be dog slow.

So I'm guessing this will never come to AT&T now that they're cutting some of their EDGE support??? Anybody know?

3G sux! it just burns battery. maps? who need maps when u can get a garmin? web surfing i can see, but if you have a busy life you dont need to surf the web on a smartphone. get a laptop.
CMC @ Jan 8th 2009 6:45AM
Walk around with a garmin in your pocket in addition to the blackberry? Also, 3G enables simultaneous voice and data as does wi-fi but is available in broader areas than wi-fi. So I can talk while tethering or send a file during a call. For busy lifestyles, who wants to stop and sit with a laptop when so much more can be done from a single device.

I spoke to a T-Mo rep on the phone and she confirmed the release date of the 11th. How reliable that information is, you can decide.

Just wanted to let everyone know, as of 10pm PST, I have ordered and upgraded to a Blackberry Curve 8900 on T-Mobile after like a million attempts to do so over the phone. It is officially on back order according to 3 tier 1 representatives. I want my phone now. :[
