Sharp's SH1810C brings Japanese specs to China

When we say "854 x 480 display and an 8-megapixel camera," what's the first thought that comes to mind? "Japan," of course, and history would certain lend credence to that knee-jerk word association. Sharp's expanding its high-spec horizons just a tad, though, with the SH1810C -- a 3-inch wide VGA beast with a penchant for high-res snapshots that's actually going to end up gracing Chinese markets, not Japanese ones. We guess we understand the argument that Asian character sets make WVGA displays an easier sell, but come on now -- we're sure we can find a perfectly great use for 'em.

If it's going to be GSM, then shouldn't this be imported fairly easily?

You can use HyperSim or any kind of those Sim unlock chips to use these phones.
The sad part is you can only use 2G instead of 3G once you use this method.

The BEST part of this phone is not because it is 8MP, it is because the phone is using CCD sensor which is the same type of sensor as your normal digital cameras!!!

@JapPhone- wrong! This is made for the Chinese market, which means it will be factory-unlocked.

Move all your contacts to SIM. Then they'll move with your card instead of staying on your phone.

That's a really ugly way to do it. Plus you're limited in the number of contacts. The nice thing about most phones I've encountered is that you can attach additional data and multiple numbers to a single name. On the sim that's just not possible.

It is the Japanese government that doesn't want Sony, Sharp, Mitsubishi et al to export their high-end domestic phones outside of Japan. Why else would they all make it so insanely hard to unlock their phones and not sell any unlocked ones?

No, it's not the government. It's the carriers. take a look at websites of docomo,softbank,or au. There's no Keitai sold on multiple carriers.In addition to SIM locks, those phones have OSs specially designed for carrier and its services,and sometimes have no ability to work on an another. Japanese government is actually on anti-SIM-lock side.

They are getting the damn model number incorrectly. One news site does it incorrectly and everyone else makes the same mistake. In Sharp-China, model numbers have a total of four numbers, not three. It's SH1810C, NOT SH810C ARGH.

And yes it's GSM so I would expect to see this on eBay like how the SH9020C is on eBay as well.

Answering Mark's question, networks like NTT DoCoMo and Softbank don't want the phone to be used outside of Japan. Back when Japanese phones were amazing and didn't use WCDMA, it was impossible to unlock... so everyone outside of Japan can only envy the Japanese. When FOMA was introduced, they began using WCDMA technologies... which gave us a chance to use keitais. There's a huge demand for Japanese cell phones now, so hypersims and simhacks are becoming more and more advanced and stable. By the way, Mitsubishi does not produce phones anymore.

No matter how advance and stable Sim Hack has become, we can only be able to use 2G network and not 3G network.
We will only be able to use 80% of the functions on these great phones.

Ex: Browsing the internet is out of the question.

That's true... many other things like 1-Seg (Mobile Television, which only Japan and Brazil have), Mobile Wallet, FelCia, etc. won't work because we don't have the infrastructure.

Just to be clear, 3G for the 906i series actually works for incoming & outgoing calls.
