Samsung's R470 looks destined for US Cellular
If we have to pick between a flip CDMA dumbphone and, say, a Touch Pro, we're going to take the Touch Pro ten times out of ten -- but as flip CDMA dumbphones go, this thing really isn't half bad looking at all. The Samsung R470 just passed FCC muster this week, and as Phone Scoop astutely notes, the manual's mention of "easyedge" indicates that the dazzlingly orange clamshell will likely see duty on US Cellular. We're looking at fairly comprehensive external controls -- likely with a music slant -- along with Bluetooth and microSD expansion, but strangely, we can't find any mention of EV-DO in the test docs. Seems kinda strange for a phone in this category, doesn't it?

I keep hearing that we're getting the TouchPro in March. I hope so. I'd hate to jump to Sprint for one.

Listen to someone who had a touch pro and ditched it as soon as he could (12 days flat): that phone is probably the worst HTC ever tried to push.
If you really want an HTC get a nice touch HD or if you want something even better get a Samsung Omnia, since you live in the US the Omnia you will get is the new i910 on which the few bugs of the Omnia i900 (such as lack of voice dialing over BT) have been corrected.
We europeans unfortunately got the Omnia some months before but now are saddled with the old Omnia i900 , and if Samsung will not fix its buggy ROM very soon it's gonna face the consequences of the rage of its best european clients who will never buy again another high end phone from Samsung.
Anyway, if I were an american I'd have no doubts I'd buy the Omnia i910, which, if i'm not mistaken is even cheaper than the irritating , unweldy and problem prone Touch pro.

US Cellular is getting this, I have seen it. It also comes in red and purple will be available for $49.99 on a 2 year contract. Comes out on Jan. 9th. Most stores should have a demo by now.

do yourself a favor and get the touch pro with a provider with a decent evdo footprint (like sprint/verizon). us cellular's evdo is basically non-existant.

it could be by design not to have the evdo look at the samsung sway at vzw it dosent have evdo and is a music based phone. I know that sounds crazy but it looks like samsung for some reason is choosing to make some of thier phones non evdo unless its needed for a service like mobile television or something along those lines
