That
new (well, "new" might be a stretch) Dash for T-Mobile has itself this unflattering official shot now, and we've got to say: the silver front worked just fine for us. If anything, the freshly-blackened handset just looks like it's had the aluminum highlights torn off, exposing a nightmarish landscape of raw, unfinished plastic bits never meant for the public eye. Okay, that's going a bit far, but do you see what we mean? In other news, the old Dash has disappeared from T-Mobile's retail site, suggesting that the launch of the new model is imminent, WinMo 6.1 and all. Honestly, guys, you could run it over a belt sander and change the keyboard layout to Dvorak -- just give us Android and 3G, and we're all in.

"just give us Android and 3G, and we're all in"
I don't want no crappy privacy-invading Android! Just give us 3G, quad-band GSM, UMA, Bluetooth with uncrippled profiles, Wi-Fi b/g, a 624 MHz+ processor, FM radio, VGA resolution, 256 MB RAM, 16GB ROM, micro SDHC slot, with latest AKU of WinMo 6.1 - all that in the original Dash form factor and talk about the perfect WinMo smartphone!
The "new" Dash is a disrespect to customers. Either jack up the specs or don't release the darn thing.

Does WM Smartphone version even support VGA? The rest I agree with. RIM put Marvell's 624 MHz PXA930 chipset into a BlackBerry, HTC could do the same. Though for 3G, HTC prefers the ever craptastic (but cheap) Qualcomm MSM chipsets, and their non-existent drivers.

Ok, I'll bite. How is Android invading its user's privacy?

That screen is too small to bother with VGA anyway. Even the Treo screens are bigger than that. And without Touchscreen in this day and age, I just can't see going for one of these even with the recommendations above.

Are we just *assuming* that this will include WM 6.1, or is there specific info that it will be version 6.1?

If they are indeed upgrading it to 6.1 then why aren't they using the sliding panels interface in the shot above? And there is already a panel in 6.1 for MyFaves.

It looks like a q and a curve mated.

Seriously? Why are they "upgrading" the dash when the cavalier's been out for more than a year now?
Brian @ Dec 31st 2008 10:00PM
It still looks like a calculator.

I'm honestly liking the black face much more than the aluminum one... to me, it always made it look like the bottom half of the phone was much wider than the screen, and it didn't do anything for me. But honestly, this is still a "too little, too late" situation... they need to actually update this phone, and now.

A truly new Dash is coming. Just hold your horses.

@Adam: "Ok, I'll bite. How is Android invading its user's privacy?"
Google is. They don't have the cleanest record when it comes to user privacy. Just to a search to read more about the issues, but use some other search engine just in case. Now, who makes Android?

i h=just got this exact phone last week and there is no windows 6.1 on it. i got it flashed by xda developers to get a cooked version of 6.1 but other wise its just the same as the old one cooler look and a added few features and aits a bit faster
