We've already seen it go down
unofficially, but we've received word from HTC today that Android's coveted
"Cupcake" branch of updates and fixes -- or at least a majority of it -- will likely be making it to the
G1 in the future as a legitimate over-the-air push. HTC isn't involved in deciding what updates get pushed to the G1 or when, but given the update cadence so far and the G1's support for Cupcake's capabilities, the company believes that it's just a matter of time before T-Mobile makes it happen. The timing is still a big question -- HTC's more or less out of the loop on the schedule, and it's up to Google and T-Mobile to figure out how it's going to play out. We'll keep you updated as we find out more!
Update: We pressed HTC spokespeople to give us a little more to go on, but got the standard "we can't comment on rumors or speculation" line. T-Mobile, Google, your move -- you've got plenty of folks waiting. A belated Festivus gift, perhaps?

Heard a rumor at a TMobile store today from an assistant manager who said he's heard that cupcake may not be coming to TMobile after all. He said this would not be a Google or Android decision but yet one of TMobile.
I sure hope this is not true because if it turns out to be true after just purchasing two G1 phones less than three weeks ago, I who have been with TMobile when they were still VoiceStream will be cancelling my service with TMobile for good and will pay whatever the amount needed to permanently sever my ties with them for good.
Again I'm assuming just rumor but I want to make the point that if TMobile got in bed on this one they need to support ALL future updates along the way.
They've dropped the ball in the Blackberry arena in the past and I just hope they don't repeat themselves here.
Thanks

@Jay Lee.....That is a word I wouldn't even go on....I mean seriously he is only a assistant Manager at a store, T-mobile's Customer Service, Don't even know what they are talking about....I mean CS and the Stores will tell you the G1 will not work at all without the data plan....But it's works great. the only reason I stay with Tmobile is because I don't get no shocking bills and it's always the same. As for their CS and employees I feel the lack in training in almost every aspect. Having said that it has been confirmed by T-Mobile that the update will hit the G1, But it's not going to be all at once....And the Rumors going around the first update is suppose to happen anytime from the Jan 10th to 11th for the UK and anywhere from Jan 11th to the 15th for the US....So lets just wait it out and see what happens....Man I'm hungry anyone want a cupcake >?

I sure hope they come out with updates that's why I bought this G1 & retired my wing. If no updates I'm sorry I gave up my wing....
