Cellphones are dangerous/not dangerous, watch your kidneys edition
Believe it or not, this latest study on how cell phones are killing you doesn't invoke the dreaded c-word. Instead, scientists at the European Research Institute for Electronic Components in Bucharest found that exposing red blood cells to low-level radiation -- lower than what emanates from your mobile buddy, apparently -- caused them to leak hemoglobin, which they say can lead to kidney damage and heart disease. The Federation of the Electronics Industry have already come out swinging, saying there is still no consistent evidence the mobile devices are physically hurting us. If history tells us anything, expect to see a report in the near future on how inconclusive these findings are, followed by separate findings on how beneficial a healthy kick of radiation to the kidneys can be.

The low-level radiation isn't hurting us. It's what kills the cancer cells caused by the cell phone.

Why does that look like a cellphone from Macross Frontier?

If anyone has actually seen this study or even a direct abstract, will you please send me the link? The only study I knew of similar to this was from 1999 from the same organization.
If you can help, please e-mail me through my site at www.mycellphoneiskillingme.com
Sincerely,
David Wood

David, that's a good catch.
There seem to be many inconsistencies in the original story that Textually picked up on. For example, The Research Institute for Electronic Components, Bucharest no longer exists. It was merged into the National Institute for Research and Development in Micro and Nanotechnologies in --- yep, 1999.
Professor Edward Tuddenham is no longer with the Imperial College Medical School; he's been with University College London since 2005.
More about the inconsistencies here.

Iria,
Thanks much, and thanks for that link. I saw the same problems as they did, and the original site that published the story never did respond to my questions.
It was kinda strange to read stories that made it sound like the study was yesterday when I knew it was 9 years old.
Original 1999 story from the Daily Mail:

Well nevermind. I just saw the site you mentioned referenced the same story I posted. I need about 5 more eyes and 3 more hands.

Seriously...what ISN"T killing us slowly? Screw radiation destroying my kidneys and giving me tumors, I'd rather be packin a few smartphones with bluetooth radio turned on, wi-fi, all blasting their ratiation into my body.
