Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 developing cracks?
Sheesh, what's up with top tier handsets cracking this year? First the iPhone 3G, now SE's XPERIA X1? A curiously high amount of cracking complaints are starting to build around the web, possibly indicating that a quality issue could be somewhat widespread. We're hesitant to believe that this here quirk is even close to happening everywhere, but it is somewhat suspicious that HTC and SE have recently been rumored to be going their separate ways after this phone has faded from the limelight. At any rate, we've no choice but to poll our own audience here, so have you seen unwanted cracks appear in your X1? If so, hit the read link -- you definitely aren't alone in all of this.

Damn HTC. My Touch Pro has cracks already and I had a VZW Touch before and that had cracks too. What gives?
grull27 @ Dec 28th 2008 4:06PM
First, iPhone 3G. Then this. :(
oakie @ Dec 28th 2008 4:25PM
i'd like to able to say mine has developed cracks too, but i can't justify spending that much on one, cracks or not.
i will say my first gen iPhone has no cracks, though. :D
Sameer Surampalli @ Dec 28th 2008 4:24PM
Wait... can anyone actually afford the X1 here?
mndl632 @ Dec 28th 2008 4:38PM
i've had my x1 for 2 months now and not a single crack or problem with the hardware. though i have seen pics of x1's with cracks worse than that.

Old news.
It's the silver ones developing this issue. Luckily mine is black.
mndl632 @ Dec 28th 2008 6:12PM
i've got the sliver one and got no issues with it, from what everyone is saying on xda developers it seems to be the first batch that were released
RCC2k8 @ Dec 28th 2008 5:54PM
First it was the Treo Pro and now the XPERIA X1, both made by HTC. What's up with these guys?!? Check your Touch Pros, Diamonds and Fuzes just in case.
hydie @ Dec 28th 2008 10:10PM
I've got my diamond ever since it first come out. I kept dropping it on hard concrete and I only got scratches, no cracks.
evan hal @ Dec 28th 2008 7:42PM
Had my X1a for a month. No cracks here.
Christian Walters @ Dec 28th 2008 8:38PM
Meh, HTC devices have been doing this for years. Around the corners of most touch screen devices are those "squared" corners, not 90 degree angles, but more rounded, like the picture above, and they always crack right before or after these corners, simply because the plastic is thinner in that area. Its not that big of a deal if you ask me, both my 3 year old Wizard, and my 5 month old Shadow have the same problem on the top right, not really all that bad.
mndl632 @ Dec 28th 2008 8:54PM
that may be the case but some of the early batch of the silver x1s also had cracks appear in the battery compartment too, there is a huge thread on xda developers about this issue, which a lot of people seem to have had. Though it doesnt seem to be much of an issue with more recent x1s
Nippero @ Dec 28th 2008 9:32PM
True, it seems like the majority of the cracked X1s were from production week 44.
My W47 Silver X1 is fine so far.

You see all phones develop cracks eventually.... especially when you drop them.
L @ Dec 29th 2008 5:16AM
Have you taken a look at the discussion "Read" links to? That's not normal, and that's not acceptable for a device this expensive.
NuShrike @ Dec 29th 2008 4:35AM
Damn Darren! Where have you been for the past month? Haven't you heard of the related X1a recall because of this?
Jason Burns @ Dec 29th 2008 7:25AM
My x1a was delivered 11/26. No cracks! yet.
Galen20K @ Dec 29th 2008 9:45AM
Say what you'd like about how Ugly the G1 is, Never any Cracks reported on that one!!!
HA!!!!
Nippero @ Dec 29th 2008 12:25PM
Id rather go through the trouble of having to send my phone to SE (hopefully i wont have to, been 2 months already), than be stuck with a phone that i consider ugly, toy-like, and would be ashamed to take out in public :P
Galen20K @ Dec 29th 2008 1:15PM
I feel sorry for you if you're ashamed of yourself because of the phone you carry, feeling Ugly inside are we??? ;- D
Nippero @ Dec 29th 2008 3:03PM
Nice.. personal attacks to defend your phone.
Maybe ashamed was the wrong word... embarrassed would be more fitting.
Android might be promising, but the G1 is just so ugly.
Donald Hansen @ Dec 29th 2008 4:03PM
If you remember, the Verizon 6900 (HTC Touch in White) also started developing cracks shortly after being released to the public. I think the problem started at that point in time. None of the black units seemed to have any issues until late this year. What gives? I'm sure glad I switched over to Samsung!
