AT&T letting go of 8GB refurb iPhone 3Gs for $99 on contract
Ha, you or someone you love just paid full retail for an iPhone 3G a few days ago, didn't you? We've always heard that the best deals come after Christmas, but people just never learn. All smack talk aside, those who didn't get a new cellie under the tree, but did acquire a Benjamin or so courtesy of cash-stuffed holiday cards, can certainly score a big deal today. AT&T is now offering the 8GB iPhone 3G in refurbished form for just $99 with a two-year agreement, while the 16GB refurb is $199 on contract in either black or white. Call us crazy, but we don't foresee these hanging around in stock for too awfully long.

Uh, no. You'd have to PAY me to got with AT&T. Horrible coverage, crap phone selection (seriously, is a DECENT cameraphone too much to ask for?) and heaven help you if anything goes wrong.

Yeah, and then give the savings right back to AT&T with the ridiculous $70+ monthly contract. No thanks, I'll stick with T-Mobile + iPhone 1st Gen + T-Zones internet EDGE plan ($4.99 a month grandfathered for me). My monthly bill is around $45 - $50 WITH unlimited messaging.
I'll accept the fact that I need to place a call to check my voicemail.

The fact that there's refurbs says a lot of how many issues it has and that there's actually a buyer's remorse. It's really not a deal when you look at a new iphone comes with a 1yr and this only has 3 months of warranty. No one will insure a refurb regardless. My sister's refurb had issues with the Home button not responding so I wouldn't take a chance on a deal that is only saving you $100. Obviously no one at ATT had to fix an iPhone that's out-of-warranty. It's expensive as hell.
I am an Adroid user and not buying a refurb iPhone for $99. I'm switching because I can get better 3G coverage, carry-over minutes and unlimited texting on a family plan for $5 a month shared. T-Mo doesn't get 3G reception here at my work building and it's driving me nuts.

wow AT&T really are ripping their customers off with the iphone, i work for o2 here in the uk and the iphone is a lot better value for money here. For £35 a month, you get unlimited data and wifi access, cheaper international calls, free access to voicemail, 600 anytime cross network minutes and 500 cross network messages everymonth and it's an 18 month contract. Though you still pay £99 for the phone. That's just over $50 a month.
mphayvanh @ Dec 26th 2008 5:02PM
That's $65 shared not $5.

May want to update the headline a bit... lol. "on contract" I was going to purchase the device as I am "on contract"

Refurbs only have a 90 day warranty. Beware.
Ryan C @ Dec 26th 2008 8:49PM
I know these deals won't be around for long. I can upgrade on January 14.
Oh well. I'm not a big fan of buying refurbs anyways.
mike @ Dec 27th 2008 2:01AM
No offense but does $100 buxs really make a difference? The 2 year plan cost is almost $2000 buxs. If you can pay $70 buxs a month plus texting does it really matter?
allaroundgame @ Dec 27th 2008 2:42AM
@mike: $100 goes a long way to providing enough McDonalds dollar value meals to help you survive after signing up for that 2 year contract lol
FireFish @ Dec 27th 2008 3:10AM
Umm, I hate to burst your bubble about this article, but there's a site that has them used as well for no contract.
It is something like ebay.com , yeh, that was it!
Plus, I wouldn't want a refurbished phone anyways for a hundred bucks less.
I like that Apple is cool when my battery starts to go on my 3G; they just give me a new one. That alone has happened 4 times already! Seriously, my local Apple store just gave me my fourth brand new iPhone 3G on Wednesday.

Just another reason to believe in the possibility of an iPhone Nano coming soon, . . . As in 2 weeks from now.
knitevulture @ Dec 29th 2008 8:31PM
seriously? iphone nano, it reminds me of the Ben Stiller movie, Zoolander where he has a miniature phone, and to believe an iphone nano is coming is just not comprehensible.
