RIM calls the Storm "Verizon's best-selling device" -- whatever that means
We're still no closer to determining just how many BlackBerry Storm sales have been reversed by now, but either way, said handset is reportedly Verizon's "best-selling device." Interestingly, it's up to your best guess as to what that really signifies, as the quantity of Storm devices sold remains tightly under wraps. In other words, you could take that to mean it's the bestselling right now (highly probable) or that it has already outsold all other VZW handsets in two short months (not at all probable). In other, more substantiated news, RIM has proclaimed that it sold 6.9 million smartphones between September and November of this year, which -- coincidentally enough -- is exactly how many iPhone 3Gs that Apple sold through in its Q4. So RIM, whenever you feel like dishing out that exact figure that only everyone, everywhere is waiting for, we'll be listening.

If people line up for the phone it better be the best-seller.

A lot of early reviewers had the device for a few days then poured their souls all over the web complaining of this and that.... I don't think they gave it enough time and did not allow for OS improvements to better the overall user experience.
It's very apparent that the keyboard has a much tougher learning curve to master and most gave up before they could become usability experts.
Like usual, the ones who had issues were much more vocal but still represented a much smaller minority.
I for one am neither a Verizon customer or a Storm owner, but from the outside looking in that is what it appears to be.
I'm sure this thing is a hot seller both in terms of subsidized upgrades, early upgrades and new activations.
I'll wait till they make one of these bad boys with T-Mobile's AWS 3G band and UMA type service before I plop down $ 500 dollars on something like this....

Overall it's a good device. Sure there are some issues such as lag and the camera could be faster. Im sure they will be resolved with another firmware update or two. Hell, I still have problems with my iPod Touch sometimes (which I love), and that just goes to show that there really is no perfect device in existence yet.
Im really digging my Storm!

The storm isn't $500. it's $149.99 if you get it from Verizon using a "new every two" discount and $199.99 if you get it by signing up for a new 2 year contract.

I for one am a storm user and like the phone, originally I loved the phone then became upset with it and now we have come to be good friends. :) The device is one that you do need to play with for a while to really use at a useable pace just like may other smart-phones you will need to adjust it is just that with the storm you will need to take more time and adjust the settings to better fit you. In addition the talk about glitches on the device only makes them apparent, to may they will not notice any issue about the device until it is mentioned and then it will become overly obvious or will come to be as someone searches for it.
Overall it was a highly anticipated phone, phone to compete with the iphone i do not believe that they can be compared but those that did may have chosen to go with the iphone. which would have caused a return but otherwise many people on Verizon would not switch phones because there aren't many (any) comparable devices besides the point Verizon software seems to cause glitches.

iPhone. Immediately easy to use (love that argument about the Storm that you have to give it time - a mobile is not an indie record), lots of apps. Better, though: try them both. See for yourself.

I agree. I sell cell phones to small business.
If someone were to tell me what you just said? I'd point you in the direction of an iPhone or a Palm if you want a smartphone.
If you're choosing between iPhone and Storm and no nothing about phones and this is your first smartphone...
Go iPhone. So user friendly, it's ridiculous. Heck, it's probably easier to use than even most regular phones!
The Blackberry definitely has more power, and is probably easier to use than a Windows Mobile device... so you'll be fine on it. But it's not as easy as the iPhone.
Jeff @ Dec 19th 2008 10:23AM
So let's get this right...
They sold as many smartphones TOTAL as AT&T has sold iPhones? Wow - that's amazing. Let's consider that AT&T also has the Blackberry Bold, the Fuze, Palm Centro, Palm Treo, the Epix, Incite, BJ II, Q9h, Blackberry Pearl, Curve, 8700, 8820, Pantech Duo, Tilt....
Hmmm. Who's winning the Smartphone battle?
IphoneUser @ Dec 19th 2008 10:45AM
I have an ATT acct with the Iphone, and have a VZW acct with the Storm. I've had the Storm since day one and I love the phone. It has some software issues, and many have been fixed, but not all issues yet. This phone does everything that I want it to do, unlike my Iphone 3G. The Iphone has an awesome interface, wonderful games and apps, and the best browser in the business. However, admittedly, I get better call quality, speakerphone quality, mms, bluetooth, and just all of the other perks of blackberry devices, but with a nice touch screen. Again, it's not perfect, and still has it's issues. But then again, my Iphone, and my Iphone 3G had many many software issues, and features missing that I can now get on my Storm, such as copy n paste and a better camera with flash. I'm happy.
Jeff @ Dec 19th 2008 3:37PM
Sounds like all would be great if we could just merge the 2 into one device! LOL
Jeff @ Dec 20th 2008 4:10AM
I had a BB Storm for about a week, then it died on me - black screen, won't turn on, can't charge battery. I try remove the battery also but had no luck. I returned the phone and decided not to get a replacement.
I wonder am I the only one with such issue on this phone.
Rich @ Dec 21st 2008 11:42PM
If Apple came out with an iPhone with a slideout full QWERTY keyboard I would drop Verizon right now and switch to AT&T to buy one. However I doubt that's ever going to happen. So when my new every two in a few months I'm going to have to seriously consider this puppy...
Thomas @ Jan 15th 2009 10:20PM
The storm is garbage, sure its the best selling device but im double sure its the most returned device as well, it resets no less than 5 times a day, freezes causing me to reset it another 3 or 4 (and this is with the firmware update) I guarantee this phone will go the way of the dodo bird in no less than 2 years time as the biggest BB failure ever. I know my confidence in RIM is about null after all the problems Ive had with this joke of a device. Im switching back to the curve this week. I gave it a fair chance and theres not an hour that goes by I wanna throw this heap against a wall. Kudos to RIM as they pulled a fast one on consumers.
