Say, remember how there was supposed to be a Treo Pro
coming to Sprint? Yeah, well, the time is drawing near for that to go down; odds are it could've happened sooner, but Sprint probably wanted to give its fairly fresh
800w a little breathing room before getting sunsetted in favor of the significantly more attractive Pro. The carrier is currently targeting January 25 for the model to be available in all channels for $549.99 -- which we're guessing (hoping) will come down to $249.99 or so after rebates, subsidies, and all that jazz. Also launching in January should be the Motorola i365IS -- an even more rugged model of the already beefy
i365 -- and a pink version of the
Instinct. If that's not a veritable potpourri of phones covering every corner of the market, we don't know what is.

Of all the colors to come out on, it's Pink? Why not red? Or white? Or both? Somebody separate must be doing the managing for the Instinct because they're just failing everytime with it.

So - Is this the big news Palm plans to release in January?

Not to mention, Dieter's ridiculously idiotic wet dream phone fantasy.

Nice copycat story, btw, Malatesta. Only it took you 24 minutes too long, chump. No scoop for you! ;)
NuShrike @ Dec 15th 2008 5:18AM
Better looking, but too bad trades the really fast TI OMAP 2430+PowerVR (almost iPhone equilvalent and also used in the new benchmark burning Samsung Innov8) for the cheap and slow Qualcomm MSM72xx use in everything HTC these days.
Spoony Love @ Dec 15th 2008 10:41AM
I see why sprint is loosing ground on the other three cell phone providers. A pink Instinct? Why not improve the phone instead of offering it in a color not to many consumers want. Another thing also with the Instinct from Samsung is how come Samsung has the Omnia which is a far better phone than the Instinct than? This is why sprint will be in last. They need to offer products consumers would like to use!
Professor Groove @ Dec 15th 2008 8:03AM
And this is EXACTLY why Sprint is losing so many customers. Instead of going after the Samsung Omnia or Pixon, or the Touch HD, or any other full screen touch phone.....they release a PINK version of the Instinct which is outdated compared to every other touchscreen on the market.
Why not invest time in getting Android or something that will ACTUALLY make people wants to use and stay. The low monthly rates is the only thing keeping me otherwise I would've switched to a carrier that is going to get newer technology!
Skemme @ Dec 15th 2008 9:25AM
Have you even used an Instinct? Omnia is a WM6 phone with all the warts. Instinct just works and has enterprise email, contacts and calendar sync.
Besides, getting 6 out of 10 phones listed on forbes as 2008 phones to have and launching the Palm Pro is hardly a lack of good technology from Sprint.

^Why would any intelligent person try an Instinct? Comparing an Instinct (proprietary OS) to any other animal is disingenuous (at best). Good luck with support and upgrades, fool.
skemme @ Dec 16th 2008 11:11AM
Aren't WinMo, BlackBerry, Apple proprietary? Google's still trying to gain traction, but my comments didn't reference that.
Also the released (Summer 08) Java Dev kit and continuing support by both Samsung AND Sprint for the Instinct don't count? Isn't Java non-proprietary?
Excellent phone. Try and you'll see.
ace587 @ Dec 15th 2008 8:28AM
give me a white instinct and i am sold
Rogue_Genius @ Dec 19th 2008 1:55PM
I've got some white spray paint handy.
Now about my fee...
DssTrainer @ Dec 15th 2008 12:20PM
It's true.. pink basically cuts the gender market in half. At least do something like blue or silver or white.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Dec 15th 2008 2:41PM
WTF?! so your telling me that Sprint can get the 800w AND the Pro before Verizon can get either? i tell you, if Sprint's coverage didnt suck so bad where i live, i would have jumped ship long ago for yellow pastures. i actually just bought a 700wx on eBay for $40 to replace my Q9c because of Verizon's refusal to upgrade their Treo offerings. i need WinMo 6 Pro and a touchscreen.
and come on people, not everyone wants an all touchscreen phone (which Verizon seems to think). im not interested in the Omnia for exactly that reason (who cares about the propriety OS Instinct? WinMo 6 is where it's at). i love touchscreens but i need to have a physical keyboard as well. Treo's are perfect for this. which is why i dont see why these carriers dont broaden their lineups. i cant imagine an all touchscreen phone would be good for a strictly business user.
tsurek @ Dec 15th 2008 5:15PM
All you guys are idiots! Here are a few geeks that just read up on whats going on in the cell phone world trying to give CEO Dan Hesse advice on how to run sprint??
How many people do you actually think want the best technology out there!? people want good service, fair prices and dependable phones! not necessarily an Iphone everytime a new phone is launched!
If that was the case we would have more people on these sites giving comment but no we have maybe 20 commenting and giving pathetic advice. So that means that there's millions of other people living their lives as they should with the desire of a dependable device and low prices but NOT the next big thing! Do you think half of sprint customers or even a fourth switch devices everytime a new better one is launched??
You guys just want to see the phone being launched but the question is will it sale??
Sprint can offer a Touch HD for $450 after rebates and instant savings but how many people do you think will actually purchase it?
Emerald Ayotte @ Dec 15th 2008 6:02PM
Idiots huh? So then explain why most of the cellphone market if flocking to Verizon and AT&T who's prices are higher than Sprint. It's not coverage, it's not price either, which leaves TECHNOLOGY!!
Sprint lacks the devices to make people even want to try them out, instead everyone wants to try the iPhone, the Omnia, the Blackberry Storm and the list goes on.
Why is it that every other carrier offers a touchscreen which appeals to both novices and business users but Sprint doesn't? Why is it that every other carrier has some exclusive phone but Sprint doesn't (AT&T - iphone // Verizon - Blackberry Storm // T-Mobile - Sidekick and G1)? Why is it that all of the Sprint high end devices are available on other carriers (Touch Diamond, Touch Diamond Pro, Blackberry Curve, etc)?
Sprint needs that one WOW device to compliment the coverage and low prices.
tsurek @ Dec 15th 2008 7:02PM
^^Did you really have to repeat what almost everyone has already stated?
Flocking?? Do you even have accurate numbers to prove that people are flocking to Verizon or AT&T or are you just generalizing?
"Sprint lacks the devices to make people even want to try them out, instead everyone wants to try the iPhone, the Omnia, the Blackberry Storm and the list goes on."
Yes, people want to TRY them. They dont necessarily want to buy them and thats what businesses want not just show off their handsets. Verizon makes their money with their semi smart phones like the glyde and voyager. Why would I want to buy a Touch Pro for 300 when I can buy a Voyager for 99 and still get a cool touchscreen phone with a full keyboard? or anything else but a 250+phone. Sure, theres lots of people out there who want that high end device but there's MANY other ways to boost up sales. Look, I hate when people come on this site and talk their mouths off and criticize carriers for absurd reasons. You, me and everyone else in here dont know EXACTLY whats going on inside corporate nor their numbers or future plans so its stupid to criticize or talk like we are candidate CEOs for each carrier!
celz @ Dec 18th 2008 3:44PM
all of you guys giving sprint advice have obviously never had a sales or marketing job.. the storm and omnia are not gonna sell big numbers.. they will do good but the instinct will outsell them put together.. consumers want 1 look 2 price 3 ease of use 4 features just because we want features first doesnt matter 99 percent of people dont care. Thats why the Us is behind the world and thats why apple can take all off 2005s features not use half of em and promote the other half as ground breaking. Lmao at dum fanboys sayin sprint and vzw dont have 3g yet lmao u guys are so ignorant its hilarious
Jason K @ Dec 17th 2008 12:20AM
I seriously can't believe somebody is sending you screenshots of confidential pricing information. Granted, I like to get news about cool new gadgets as much as the next guy, but it is pretty frustrating to know that as Sprint is standing on its last legs, some internal shameless huckster gets his rocks off passing around important competitive information like this.
Pete @ Dec 19th 2008 1:43PM
I was sure that this would replace the 750 for AT&T when it got phased out back in August, but all my hopes are dashed.
mike @ Dec 27th 2008 11:10PM
Whats the deal with the black refresh??? Is this a newer version of the original instinct or is this what it has always been called????
