Nokia's North American N85 now shipping
Just days after Nokia's highly desirable North American N85 emerged for pre-order at Amazon (and Nokia, for that matter), we're now seeing reports that some of the earliest orders are beginning to ship out. The N85 NAM, of course, includes that lovely tri-band GSM support with NA 3G compatibility baked right in, and the US warranty doesn't hurt either. So, has your pre-order shipped out yet? No? Then get on the horn and find out why!

For once and for all Nokia needs to (re) consider its prices. Nice phone but cost too much.

Phone costs too much? Compared to what?
Are we talking about a 'free' phone - that requires a 2 year contract at $35 / mo - costing another $840 on top of 'free'...
Of course - a feature rich 'free' phone doesn't really exist, on average a carrier (in the US) would subsidize something like this to - oh - $350 range, but then they'd probably have you get a data plan, putting a minimum cost somewhere in the $60-70 range for 2 years - for another $1440-$1680 on top of the 'susidized' price...
Or you could early terminate your contract for ~ $200 .. that gets you $350 for the phone, no required monthly fees, plus another $200 for early term - that's $550 for the phone, which has carrier branding and firmware...
Hmm - $552 for a Nokia phone with no branding, manufacturer firmware and completely unlocked SIM access...
Price doesn't seem too bad when you start crunching the number...

Pohket, although I do agree the price is somewhat reasonable, I usually reserve these prices ranges for touch screen smartphones. Besides, Im sure you wouldnt mind if it was a bit cheaper :)

I want this phone so badly! Maybe when it drops $100 bucks Ill get one. Im too broke for one now :(

Nokia has a $50 off any phone over $300 (N85!) promotion right now (http://www.nokiausa.com/buyonline). Of course that also means you can get a new unlocked N78 for less than $300. But I went for the big guns. I pre-ordered an N85 last week. Fedex says it's out on the truck for delivery right now.

Since when does a high-end phone HAVE to have touchscreen in order to command a price? This phone is feature packed, and justifiably have a high price. Oh the brainwashing of the iPhone...

I agree. Plus can OLED even be done on a touchscreen? My guess is that we're not there yet. There's a price to be paid for having the best looking screen out there. Apparently it's $500.

Mine is arriving today.

@wako
I guess you really don't want it that badly then.

I miss my old Nokia.

This phone is awesome. If I had the money I would pre-order it at Amazon, but for now I will just have to try my luck in the contest.
Cory Malstrom @ Mar 6th 2009 4:35PM
I hope this isn't free after a $450 mail-in debit card rebate that I'll probably never get back!

Knowing what is truly needed vrs what you just desire, only then budget what you can pay for will you find prosperity! Hey White House & Congress, are you listening to the same? Or are you just preoccupied with distraction in an effort to socialize all? Must our forefathers freedom blood be spent in vain?
