Also, verizon will never allow this phone to have the potential to try to compete with the iphone, the storms app store is awful for launch and whatever is there costs absurds amount of money. Im+ is $40 for the storm and free for the Iphone, where are all the free apps that made the app store so popular?, plus the visual voicemail on the storm isn't free another stupid thing to leave out if this phone was supposed to compete with the iphone. It's like Verizon had this concept to compete with the iphone and then halfway through they were like "ahh forget it, we're verizon, we don't need to do this" so what had potential was ruining by rim with the keyboard and verizon with greed. So in short no software will make this phone worth it which is really a shame because I looked forward to this phone for a while being i am stuck with Verizon and have been waiting for my iphone wannabe from them for a while..

pamela

Comments on Verizon posts its first BlackBerry Storm firmware update

pretty apparent by the misinformation here that you have never used a storm.

1. click screen is not unsable, it works great, its a matter of personal preference if you like it or not, its not a flaw if you dont.

2. what has verizon done to hinder this phones performance to compete with the iphone?

3. If you want an Iphone so bad than just pay the ETF and quit your whinning... go to a website like crackberry.com and see thousands of happy storm users. Oh and just an FYI just because Verizon separates everything on its bill, doesn't mean they are charging you more. Just means they want you to know what your paying for. For the identical plan on the iphone you will pay the same price. Also VZW's visual voicemail allows you to create a personalized greeting for every contact in your list, which takes up space on their network, thus you get charged $3. But I guess $3 wont allow you to pay your bills every month. Go figure!

Devil4life

Comments on Verizon posts its first BlackBerry Storm firmware update

Update: We've given the update a shot, and Mac users should be warned that there doesn't seem to be a good way of shoehorning the goods on to the phone at this point -- probably better off to wait for the OTA.

Why am I not suprised that the totally unbiased review of the first serious iPhone competitor was created on a Mac.

MidnightDT

Comments on Verizon posts its first BlackBerry Storm firmware update

probably because apple is god, iphone is jesus, and we're all just sheep.

... if you believe in that sort of thing

tra la la

Comments on Verizon posts its first BlackBerry Storm firmware update

I use Windows, and the update DID seem to fix a lot of the "choppy" issues I had with the phone before.

Paul W

Comments on Verizon posts its first BlackBerry Storm firmware update

I downloaded and installed the upgrade via OTA this morning -- the entire process took about 20 minutes.

So far, I've noticed definite improvements -- less lag time, and the switch from portrait to landscape mode is instantaneous.

I also hope there will be some follow-up reviews in the aftermath of this update. That said, I don't think all of the negative reviews can be attributed to the bugs in the initial release of the Storm. One thing I noticed is that the Storm's documentation doesn't do a good job describing all the tricks and shortcuts -- alot of them are buried in the Storm's ginormous help menu. (I discovered quite a few by accident.) So, many reviewers are unaware of the traits that make this smartphone more user friendly.

Also, unlike most Apple products, the Storm is not "out-of-the-box" user-friendly. You need to take some time to make various adjustments that suit your preferences (font size, for instance). And, in order to make the most out of Sure Type (which, I think is great), it helps to add several words to the dictionary (names of businesses, etc. that you commonly use in your email correspondences). Personally, I don't mind taking the time to do all of this, but I think some reviewers didn't make much of an effort to try. (Notably, David Pogue, who complained about the small font size)

David

Comments on Verizon posts its first BlackBerry Storm firmware update

Does anyone know if this update is the exact same one that was release online previously?
