Nokia N85 pops up at Amazon for $556 unlocked
No matter how accustomed we should be by now, it's always jarring to see one of the Nokia N-series phones drop at some outlandish unsubsidized price -- if you think the $556 tag on this N85 is hefty, keep in mind that Amazon is claiming that's already been steeply discounted from an atmospheric $1,200 "list price." While the phone is available to "buy" right this second at Amazon.com, there's a 3 to 5 week ship time quoted, so there's no telling if this'll be the first spot to nab the hotly-anticipated, N96-besting AMOLED handset in the States -- though it might be the first to take your hard earned cash for such a purpose.

I think Nokia needs to get real. The prices are too high.

Their prices are quite fair, do you have any idea what phones normally cost?
I can't say I blame Nokia for not submitting to the draconian carrier branding process in the US to get a phone subsidised.

You can use the $15 MediaNet data plan from at&t with the N85

For an unsubsidized, unlocked phone I think it's a fair deal. People just need to understand that phones are expensive. It's cheaper than the N95 USED to be and just a few dollars more than it is NOW. And everyone will agree it's better: better screen, microusb sync/charge, smaller, newer OS, FM transmitter, etc. It will probably go down in price in a few months. The Euro N85 is down below $500.
Compared to the $300 price on-contract or the $500 price off-contract from AT&T of the Touch Pro (Fuze), I would say this phone wins. Of course they are very different phones, but for me at least the N85 has all of the important features.

Is it just me or is Nokia violating some sort of trademark by using the colour magenta?
Chris @ Dec 1st 2008 6:05PM
I just picked the N85 up from eBay. Great phone. I'll overpay for an unbranded phone anyday over the junk they offer here.
How are they violating trademarks using magenta? Please explain.
