T-Mobile G1 now available in frosty white
We've heard that it's been showing up on doorsteps and in stores for a few days now, but T-Mobile has just officially given the word that the G1 is now available in white to complement bronze and the especially personality-free black (not to say there's anything wrong with that, black G1 owners). The price, hardware, and software are all the same, so if you thought this release might somehow magically bring a soft keyboard with it, think again. Any guesses what -- if any -- future colors we might see on this puppy?

Is this that phone for all the iPhone wannabes?
7on @ Nov 25th 2008 11:28AM
It's actually not a bad phone. Love the trackball they put on it.

Now that we have the inevitable iPhone reference, I have to say I really enjoy this phone and the fact that all the apps right now are free and highly useful in most situations makes it a great phone. Just need some 3G loving that will never happen where I live. I'm still on GRPS :(
mphayvanh @ Nov 25th 2008 12:00PM
Agreed. More useful apps than the IPhone and it's only been a month. Plus flash is coming, loving the MMS and yes, I use Cut n Paste often. Wished it had 1 of the 5 light saber apps for the App Store! Android Green would be nice but I like my phone like I like my women,: Black and a little QWERTY. :P
cwj @ Nov 25th 2008 3:36PM
Or at least a glow in the dark green android sticker for the back...
(frantically starts googling for the numbers to Chinese manufacturing co's)
Jake @ Nov 25th 2008 11:48AM
Have a feeling they'll release a pink G1. Yikes.
joshg @ Nov 25th 2008 11:51AM
I want a green phone soon!!!!
Adderz @ Nov 25th 2008 12:21PM
Like trying to polish a turd....its still a turd.
This phone is as ugly as sin, there is no way to justify it, and something (better) needs to be done about it. Other manufacturers need to put more effort into bringing out handsets and/or HTC need to port it to a touch HD like device that will appeal to the masses.
As it stands, this phone still only appeals to the techfiles, when it has so much potential.
cwj @ Nov 25th 2008 3:39PM
Strange, considering how many non tech people I see with it. AND how many non-tech people wanted it when they saw me using it.
It's your opinion JUST yours. For some people, simple does not = ugly.
There is no intrinsic need for anybody to "step up". It's a phone. Not a financial crisis. Not war. Not world hunger.
Get over it.
DELINQ @ Nov 25th 2008 12:47PM
I want a translucent, frosted or smoke-colored G1 kind of like my old Swatch watch, Motorola Bravo Express pager or one of those Will Smith "I, Robots".
vkannan @ Nov 25th 2008 1:40PM
I don't know why ever disses the G1. It is actually a nice looking phone (look at it in person, not sure why it looks so bad in pictures) but I think white is the best looking color yet. Its only been out a month and there are some amazing apps for it such as the barcode reader app that finds the cheapest price closest to you. Also, when you say Iphone clone, what the hell is a touch screen phone supposed to look like!?!? I would say a phone .... with a large screen.... you can touch? In my mind its not an iphone clone. Its the google phone, and with android on it it has a lot of possibilities.
Nal @ Nov 25th 2008 4:09PM
I would want a limited edition bright green like the Android logo. But any other colors? Probably not. Maybe red, but that's highly unlikely.
civilian @ Nov 25th 2008 4:52PM
the g1 is not ugly. just some fanboys of other phones feel the need to put a threat down. the phone is not the greatest, but its not the worst.
BluVoodo @ Nov 25th 2008 6:49PM
You have to admit this cheap looking plastic phone really belongs to Toys-R-US for the holiday season. :)
cwj @ Nov 26th 2008 12:30AM
And what's you're phone made of? Silk?
chickenator @ Nov 26th 2008 12:39AM
mine is glass.

He was asking about the phone you have, BluVoodo. No one really gives a sh*t about the "Most expensive Iphone in the World", because most of us won't even have a chance to see it (you included, of course).
By the way, have you even used an iPhone before? :p

Show me someone that says the G1 is a good looking phone and I'll show you a person in denial, or a lying liar! I think the G1 community should come to terms with this denial, accept that they and everyone else in the world know this phone is fugly/toy like and tell it like it is. They bought this thing because they wanted something different...a "change" to parrot a phrase beaten into our skulls for the past 20 months. They bought it for a different OS and a chance to stick it to MS and Apple. Good on 'em...nothing wrong with going a different path. Please though, no more about how it's not a horrible looking phone, 'cause the verdict is in...and it is.

Ooh. I would definately get the T-Mobile G1 if it came in Green. :)
thebigjiggly @ Dec 3rd 2008 6:27PM
i have owned a 3g iphone the first iphone and the tmobile G1 is he g1 an iphone no is it ugly no and yes. htc dropped the ball on this phone in the looks department its not sleek and sexy like an iphone but what is nothing the g1 is great for what it is the screen is amazing the os has more potential then any os ever i dont care about the app store is great but its still a closed platform ans apple can stunt real growth and creativity with androids open os and solid tmobile service this phone and this os will eventually surpase the iphone as a phone maybe not as a status symbol but i dont need a status symbol i need an amazing phone. by the way tmobile voted number one service provider 4 years in a row and thats voted on by the people who actually have the service not reporters long live the g1 and the android os if u have a small p*nis but an iphone and feel better about yourself apple fanboys

"I think the G1 community should come to terms with this denial, accept that they and everyone else in the world know this phone is fugly/toy like and tell it like it is."
Huh? The phone is decent looking, actually better than any Nokia or Blackberry.
And the funny thing is with keyboard shortcuts (buttons AND trackball), copy-cut-paste and line manipulation (vi users rejoice) it makes the iPhone's "Just works" motto == FAIL. Cause the G1 "just incredibly works" efficiently by design -- it's way more productive for browsing, email, texting, and searching. Yes it takes one to memorize 12 lines (read manual pg. 14), but it increase productivity 100%.
I do give credit to the iPhone "visual voicemail" and integration of ActiveExchange (G1 you need to buy it for 30$), but all that shiny bling and fragile construction doesn't cut it--that's why iPhone users need to keep buying the next iPhone model--either their current looks 'un-bling' from all the scratches or it's not s/w upgradable like the G1.
Really for the next 2 years, WHAT DO you really need?
WiFi,
3G,
Flash,
Chrome browser (faster than safari and rock solid)
and a Trackball.
Look at the new phones -- all they have is more memory, FM radio (WTF?), and maybe AD2P at most. I'll be shocked if HTC does come out with the WiMax phone (considering it has NO 3G). Funny thing is no one is looking at extending BATTERY LIFE. I guess iphone set the standard that recharging every 12 hrs is good enough (WTF?). At least I hear most G1s appears to handle almost 1.5 days with moderate usage on a single charge... From that, Google knows it, Apple knows it: it all about the apps at this point. And with multiple vendors offering Android phones this coming year, the gPhone ecosystem looks very bright.
