Keepin' it real fake, part CLXVI: the Sany Ericssan X1 with Wyndowz Mobil
Strategic advantages Sany Ericssan holds over Sony Ericsson:
- A quarterly sales volume measured in the hundreds is considered a rousing success.
- Neither Sany nor Ericssan have any intention of pulling out of the joint venture.
- "Outsourcing" of industrial design saves time, money, and staff.
- None of those pesky Windows Mobile licensing fees to worry about.
- GPRS data speed isn't a problem -- it's a way of life.

While that one looks a bit craptacular, I looked at their T580i (sort of an AT&T Tilt clone, but not as blatant a rip-off as some of their other phones), and with a little bit of reworking* it could be a decent cheap android phone.
(* some keyboard re-arranging, quad-band GSM, EDGE, 3G, wifi, 320x480 screen; though the 3G and wifi might come at the expense of the TV/FM tuners)
It has almost twice the battery capacity of the G1, dpad instead of trackball, and a tilt screen. Seems like a nice start to me.
If they started trying to cater to the Android market, and make a few modest advances in their designs, they could probably actually sell their phones in the US as unlocked, maybe even pre-paid, phones ... and might do well.

It looks like something you win in the gumball machine things outside of the grocery store.
