HTC Touch Diamond pops official on Alltel's site
The long, agonizing wait for Alltel to come clean with this gem is over. Starting today, subscribers can phone up the carrier with questions about the Touch Diamond and receive a response other than "Whatcha talkin' 'bout Willis?" 'Course, it's no shock whatsoever to see this Windows Mobile 6.1-based handset surface on the soon-to-be-Verizon's network, but those who've been waiting patiently will be utterly stoked to know that you can now plop down $249.99 (after all rebates and a 2-year agreement) in order to take one home.

release date?
ShogunMaster @ Nov 15th 2008 2:14AM
The Touch Pro was just released in Canada today on Bell. I talked to the Telus dude and he said that they still don't even have a launch date (it was supposed to be months ago), but he said that they delayed it because the Diamond was causing so many problems for them. It apparently had such a huge bug that people would have an hooped phone right out of the box and then have to wait 4 weeks for the RMA to return to them. They delayed the Pro to make sure it didn't happen again.
So maybe the delay for Altel's Diamond is for good reason.

Dude - the 'Diamond' has been available for weeks online at Alltel - they've been promoting it front-page since October...????
We're still waiting on the 'Pro' to go live - rumored yesterday - now possibly next week. THAT is what I wanna hear about.

this is stupid. i agree with you its been on there for a long ass time. someone needs to edit this article, because its been released since middle of october atleast.
Sports Fan @ Nov 14th 2008 8:44PM
I want it.
Eh @ Nov 14th 2008 8:54PM
With prices like that I can totally see droves of people shitting bricks and joining Alltel instead of getting an iPhone for less. Ok maybe not.
So when is the iPhone supposed to encourage other companies to you know, be competitive? The $199 iphone has yet to drive down prices on other trendy PDA phones which are MUCH less desirable to the mass market.
Jocelyn @ Nov 14th 2008 11:31PM
To Eh - Other PDA's aren't dropping in price, because everyone doesn't want to pay 70 dollars for a plan that only includes 450 minutes/data and doesn't even come with texts for that price. I got my Diamond from Sprint for $250 but guess what? I pay 30 dollars a month (Sero), I get more minutes (500), unlimited data as well, + unlimted texts. ALL of that would cost you 90 bucks a month with AT&T and the IPhone, hence why other PPC/PDA's cost a little more. My Diamond pays for itself after just 4-5 months. 60 dollars saved monthly X 5 months = 300 dollars aka free phone in comparison.
Now to the story, this is just silly you guys at engadget :P
D @ Nov 15th 2008 12:55AM
You can also do more, interface not withstanding, with the Diamond and Touch Pro (and most other WinMo devices) than you can with the iPhone. I'm happy to pay more for a device that has a better camera, higher screen resolution, MMS, the ability to tether, a removable battery, etc.
Paying more to get more, no problem.
Paying more to get less (like Verizon's more-expensive yet less-powerful Touch Pro), not cool.
I wonder if Alltel will have an ungimped Touch Pro...we'll have to keep an eye on that. :-)
Eh @ Nov 15th 2008 4:51PM
You might be able to get $30/m but new people cant, Sero is dead. New people still get ripped off just as bad as any other carrier.
This phone might be able to do more than the iPhone but most people dont find it an attractive buy and they are making no effort to make it an attractive buy with stupid prices like this. Lack of competition is one of the main reasons why all the other carriers are getting their asses handed to them by ATT and Apple.
Who? @ Nov 14th 2008 9:08PM
So when can we expect the Sprint Touch Pro vs. AT&T Fuze vs. Alltel Touch Pro vs. Verizon Touch Pro postings?
Who? @ Nov 14th 2008 9:09PM
Whoops, I just assumed that this was the Touch Pro. Question still stands, though. At least give us some comparison reviews soon.
AW @ Nov 14th 2008 10:18PM
Its been available on their site for a few weeks now...
james @ Nov 14th 2008 11:59PM
anyone know what happen to the company that release the cell phone that had different snap on pieces that would allow you to have different stuff on the phone. like gps, camera, etc. it was a square main piece that other pieces snapped on. I think i read this thing sold out right away but then never heard about it again.
THanks
