Verizon promo hints at possible BlackBerry Storm pricing
It's a little absurd that Verizon Wireless still hasn't come out of the woodwork to announce an official price on its BlackBerry Storm, but it seems an approximate sticker has been found in a most unusual place. If you peruse the absolutely enthralling fine print in the carrier's NYC Storm Hunt contest, you'll notice a disclosing line that details the grand prize. 50 individuals will win a BlackBerry Storm 9500 handset and a $50 Verizon Wireless gift card with an approximate retail value of $549. After consulting with our trusty abacus, we're left with a retail Storm price of $499. In other words, the 2-year contract price on this could theoretically be mighty delicious. Care to comment, VZW?

Best Buy's pre-order info says that the phone will cost between $199 and $299. I'd bet on $199. Not bad (they're apparently throwing in an 8GB microSD card, so it will be going head-to-head with the 8GB iPhone at that price) but not earth-shatteringly cheap, either (this is Verizon we're talking about).
So, in short: The BlackBerry Storm is Verizon's iPhone killer, and they feel confident that it's a comparable product and thus they don't need to compete on price (unlike Sprint with their $129 Instinct).

The 8GB card is preinstalled on all BB Storms. Unless you mean Best Buy is throwing in a 2nd one

I don't really follow your "it's expensive because it's Verizon" logic. the iphone is $199, and that's because it's heavily subsidized. the Storm is the first of it's kind (Blackberry touchscreen as it were) and you're getting not only the device, but also an international charger, a 8GB memory card, AND a sim card INCLUDED. if it's $199 with 2yr contract, after rebate, I would say that's one helluva deal!!!

I find this odd because the Storm coming out for Verizon is the 9530. And they're saying that they're giving away the 9500 which is the one that already came out for Vodafone. Hmm...

I think the $549 AVR is probably what the Storm would cost you with out contract.
tra la la @ Nov 6th 2008 1:16PM
please re-read the article. it CLEARLY says that the AVR for the grand prize is $549 - which includes the Storm and a $50 gift card. that being said, I whipped out my trusty abacus and came to the same conclusion the editor did - the full retail price for JUST the Storm would equate out to $499.

Look at the price of Blackberry Bold and add $100. Voila!
tra la la @ Nov 6th 2008 4:44PM
the last I saw, the Bold is $299 w/ 2yr contract on AT&T. do you really think that Verizon would price the Storm at $399 w/ a 2yr contract? That would just be plain old stupid... and say what you will, I highly doubt that Verizon would be that stupid. The Storm is designed to compete not only with other Blackberry's, but also with devices like the iPhone and the G1 - a broad customer spectrum device.

The Storm plays music, but does anyone know if music purchased via iTunes will be transferable?
blksprk @ Nov 10th 2008 9:02PM
Last I heard, blackberrys could sync with itunes on a windows box, not sure of mac, but the bold, curve and pearl can, so id assume only naturally that this will as well. blackberry has a download for it on there site

Do you guys know if the Storm will have the ability to download apps, like the iPhone?
RKD @ Nov 11th 2008 1:52PM
when is the Storm officially supposed to come out?
drjay868 @ Nov 13th 2008 11:43AM
Just got my official email from Verizon... Storms coming out on the 21st at $199.99!!!
