We're getting mixed results here, but the word on the street is that Best Buys around the colonies will start taking pre-orders for the
BlackBerry Storm tomorrow for a stiff $50 deposit -- a pretty good indication that they're expecting elevated (if not outright insane) demand when it finally launches this month. At least one store we've called has corroborated the claim, so you might want to drop by your friendly local big box tomorrow and see what's what if you're keen on being the first kid on your block with one of these monsters.
[Thanks, Thomas]

I work at the big blue box and this is true. Its a fully refundable $50 deposit so if you decide you don't want it or get something else the fiddy spot will be refunded.

I work for best buy mobile and we got directive to start doing this today. They allocate more units to our store based on the number of pre-order sku's that ring up.
Its a cool phone and we have already done a few of these. And the deposit is totally refundable if you change your mind.

Is this preorder for an unlocked GSM/HSDPA version or the CDMA/EVDO Verizon phone?

I literally lowered my head in shame at the displayed apparent intelligence of America's citizens with this comment....
the Storm will be available in the U.S. as CDMA ***ONLY*** -- as MANY people and articles have pointed out countless times. it will, however, have the capability of GSM/HSPA for travel outside the U.S..
That said, the pre-order will be for the CDMA version. If I'm wrong, I'll gladly stand corrected... but something tells me I'll be able to sleep guilt-free tonight.

Just got back from my NY store, and I'm number 2 on the list to get one of these bad boys. Gotta say I can't wait to ditch this Centro.
