Manufacturing delays said to be slowing XPERIA X1 sales
As you might have noticed, there's already plenty of Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1s out in the wild by this point, but there's apparently not quite as many as SE would like, and it's laying the blame on some slightly mysterious manufacturing delays. According to IDG News, Sweden, Germany and the U.K. have been hardest hit by the delays, but Sony Ericsson isn't about to get much more specific than that about the matter, saying simply that a lack of "certain materials" is causing the shortages. The company has said, however, that more phones should be shipping into Sweden in the next few days, with the U.K. and Germany set to get additional shipments in the next few weeks. It also says that planned launches in other countries like Switzerland, France, and Singapore, to name a few, won't be affected by the delays, and that the phone is still on track to be released in the US sometime in November.[Via the::unwired]

Wasn't there suppose to be an announcement yesterday on the other market release date?
DaveIsOnIt! @ Nov 4th 2008 2:19PM
Exactly, i been looking all over for that announcement. And I pray that its getting a carrier release, because I'm already seeing prices just 100 below the $1000 mark. If this price is insane, I'm going to have to forsake it and go with the Touch Pro.

I'm waiting for the same announcement as well.
Zane @ Nov 4th 2008 2:24PM
It hasn't been announced AFAIK. I have my fingers crossed though.

I to was anticipating this announcement yesterday and havent heard anything yet.
MikeWard1701 @ Nov 4th 2008 2:45PM
Hmm, why would "certain materials" delay release in one country over another?
Nal @ Nov 4th 2008 3:30PM
MAN.. I was so psyched for yesterday too. Xperia disappointed me. :(

Hard to make Xperias when you are so busy cranking out Touch, Touch Pros and Touch HDs. Ain't that so HTC?
iNToIT @ Nov 4th 2008 11:09PM
Don't forget the G1's. As much as you'd obviously like to. :|

The wait is not worth it - WinMo ruins the whole phone and the panels is nothing more like another way to slow down the UI. I've bought mine 5 days ago and yesterday I sent it back to amazon germany - just to name a few things (compared to a E71 - not really the same but a smartphone too):
- alerts, ringtone, vibrating with very poor performance/loudness
- bad reception in areas where the E71 shows nearly 100 %
- navigation with wayfinder (as shown on SE X1 website) is a joke (you must buy TT7 ...)
- most of the things you expect are simply not there (good working alarm clock)
- opera (at least this build) is instable and pretty hard to use, especially if you ever used safari on iPhone AND the problem ist not the resistive screen
- the very high resolution display is simply not useful at 3", and most of the third party apps look simply crappy
In most parts its all WinMo-Stuff but SE missed totally to solve that - instead they bring up this stupid panels which make things worst: Do you think you have to get used to the fact that you always going like this on your 650 euro device: "hey look here my stylish X1, see my panels (pressing X, 21 ... 22 ... 23), and look at that panel (pressing panel, waiting, waiting, seeing a freezed screenshot of what the panel is looking like few seconds later) ..." I believe even any firmware-update will not solve the os behind that. Nerds might like that because the X1/WinMo is so flexible and you can do a lot of customization - yeah a big thing right now is to bring HTCs Touchflo on the X1 - impressive ... and so it is nothing more like any other WinMo-device out there. No "Game-Changer" as SE officially said.
That nice pice of hardware, what a shame!
DaveIsOnIt! @ Nov 5th 2008 1:48PM
Well maybe it will be better in the US?
Mike @ Nov 6th 2008 3:37PM
Don't gorget android G1's too...
