We still don't have our heads wrapped entirely around the
code-red issues that brought the
Glyde to its knees on Verizon last week (we've heard reports of touchscreen and network problems affecting only certain parts of the country -- nothing's been confirmed there), but it looks like we can already put the whole dang thing to bed. We've received reports from deep inside a Verizon call center that the carrier has given the green light to Glyde upgrade sales again thanks to a pending software update that should be released this week, and anyone calling in to report problems with their phones should be informed that the update is coming to the rescue. As QWERTY sliders go we'd still rather have a
Touch Pro now that we know it's on the way, but we guess that's sort of comparing apples and oranges, isn't it?
[Thanks, Carter]

this is stupid! the first one was fake and so is this one. i would know i work for verizon. if there was an issue with switch equipment in the midwest with this phone they would have pulled the device nationwide in all channels not just send some random (and fake looking) email to a single call center! the device was never pulled and there is no new software for the device either. the last software that came out for the device was to fix issues with the touchscreen and that was a few months ago. the only device verizon has pulled ever was the samsung i760. the i760's with MEID's had issues maintaining a data connection but only in the nortel parts of the network. they pulled all the devices because it had issues with the network. not all the markets have nortel components but they still pulled the device nationwide! when they did that they sent out email to everyone in the company. call centers and retail! just think about it for a second. why would they tell one call center to stop selling the device and continue to let all the others and all the retail store continue to keep selling the device if they knew it had issues? its common sense!

Say what you want. I tried buying the Glyde last week & was told it was on quarantine for a week or so. This was in a retail store. I called the b2b channel & was told the same thing. But hey, you work for Verizon, so you must know everything right?

you're going to be eating your words tomorrow. what's your corporate email addy? i can forward you links to the 4 infomanager alerts, the technical support tool software release notes, and original quarantine emails. larger dial pad, increased touchscreen usability (hopefully better than the BL25 update ... has anyone tried to use backup assistant with that touchscreen? its a great example of how messed up with phone is).
you also forgot the Knack as another Samsung having problems authenticating with the Nortel network as well.

No wonder the Verizon reps people know nothing. They work for the company and can't even access their VZW email account to get this information, so this just gets called fake. That's comforting.

it's quite possible that this email didn't get out to ALL VZW employees... none of the I-don't-know-how-many people I work @ VZW got this email. then again, I'm on the west coast. if this problem affected the people in the midwest, it's quite possible we didn't get the CC because it doesn't immediately affect us. if we got the call, then a simple check could confirm/disprove it for a customer.

info is emailed to you depending on your area, i talked to a samsung rep that was at our center the other day and he said 2 new things are coming for the glyde: this update and new hardware coming soon, second gen glydes are gonna have resistive screens, thats per the rep so dont ride my nuts if u dont think its tru, find that guy.. and the saga is sick, the optical mouse is insane, omnia is sick too

It really surprises me that people keep insisting the glyde recall / "quarantine" / whatever you want to call it is a "fake".
There is a copious amount of information on the web that corroborates what has been mentioned on this website, not to mention the anecdotal support from Verizon customers like me.
I have a Samsung Glyde, and when I went to get it looked at last Monday (the keypad backlight wasn't working) I was told the Glydes had been quarantined (they couldn't really explain to me why), they would need to take mine from me and that they would gladly replace it with an env2. I asked if I had any alternatives to the env2 and they said that was my only choice. Reluctantly, I accepted the replacement phone and took it home.
A few hours later I was back in the Verizon store. I hated the env2, and the lack of HTML web browsing was a real sore point for me. I argued with the clerks for the return of my original Glyde. They seemed surprised (shocked, really) that I would even consider doing something like that. After some persuading and managerial intervention my old glyde was re-activated and returned to me.
Due to the confused reasoning for the quarantine and the lack of information about it on the web or anywhere else (apparently word went out the Friday before I went in), I decided the best play would be to hold on to my Glyde and ride it out.
Let's hope this "software update" will somehow resolve whatever universe-shattering issues the glyde is having. Maybe the touch screen will work worth a damn now, but somehow I doubt it :p
P.S. I live in Pittsburgh, PA and took my phone to a brick and mortar verizon store on 5th Ave downtown.

I lived in Florida and I have the Samsung Glyde,I hope there is an soft ware upgrade soon than ever because I am having problem with the Touch Screen which works sometimes.I contacted Samsung and let them know about the problem that I am having with the Samsung Glyde and I was told that when ever the Touch Screen does not work I should remove the Battery and that should solve the problem I don't think so.Its very frustrating when you have one of the Top of the line phone and it does not work properly.

I have the Glyde and I really hated it since I got it. I don't know why I didn't return it.
Anyway, I did the first update and that did nothing.
Though today, November 19, I went into the store and got the newest one and the whole interface is basically changed. And the phone works like it should. The touch screen is extremely responsive and everything seems to work perfectly. I'm glad.
This is coming from a Glyde user from Rhode Island.

there is one i got it...its alot fast and better and there is no blue box anymore..this is true. i have the new update go and get it its free!
DW @ Feb 1st 2009 10:49AM
Took my Glyde in yesterday and received the "upgrade"...as I was told it was my only option.
It worked great for about 6 hours...now I am having the exact same touch screen issues.
I think this is ridiculous as I'm stuck with a phone that only works sometimes?!?!
