Live Mesh for Windows Mobile beta released, ready for brave souls
Ready to get your Mesh on, Windows Mobile 6.x users? Fantastic. The Live Mesh team has just released (and updated, interestingly enough) the Live Mesh for Mobile client in beta form for users in the US and UK. After following the lead in the read link, you simply sign in with your LiveID and wait to be redirected to a device ring where you'll "Use Live Mesh for mobile devices." If your digital life has just seemed all sorts of out-of-sync lately, why not give this a go and see what it does for clearing things up?

This should really be on engadget's main page!
I just downloaded it...
So basically it is just a server-cloud kinda thing. You choose folders on your computer and then they get synchronized (in real-time) to the Live Mesh server and throughout your whole "mesh ecosystem". You can access file via a browser if your not on one of your own computers.
I assume it is the same for phones, but just using it as a file back sure beats the semi-automatic FTP synching I had going on before.

Live mesh is a platform which synchronizes your stuff across multiple computers (PC, Mac and Win Mobile - sorry those of you with the Jesus Phone).
So if, for example, you work in several places - like the office and home - you can set up a folder to go into your mesh and the stuff you work on in the office will show up immediately on the same folder at home or on your WinMob phone. If you don't install the Mesh client to your phone or additional computers, you can still get to your meshed stuff via livemesh.com. You can also share information with friends automatically
This is like Sugar Sync, but it works. I used sugar sync for about the last year. It worked for me about 50% of the time. Which is to say that a file I worked on in the office was available at home about half the time.
The future will see the opportunity to mesh to your car - which is cool for things like directions and mp3 files.

Downloaded it. Didn't work. Nice.

There was a bug preventing it from working. They released another version today fixing that. I redownloaded it and it works great :)

There are 3 different components: desktop, web, and mobile.
Desktop: download and install, right click whichever folders you want to share/sync.
Web: same as desktop, but accessible from a browser/public terminal (no install).
Mobile: download and install, add whichever WinMo folders (like My Pictures) you want to share/sync.
So it goes like this: drag a couple songs into your shared desktop folder, and it automatically syncs to your phone. Look up some maps or news feeds on a terminal, then save them to mesh.com, and it syncs to your phone and back to your desktop. Take some pictures with your phone while you're out, and it automatically syncs back to your desktop (and also accessible from your mesh account).

Wow... this is very cool! Correction: This is fraking awesome! This is the easiest way to share pictures, documents, and cabs, EVER!

Already using Live Mesh to sync my desktops: this is the much needed link to the mobile phone.
Interestingly, unlike the desktop clients it does not download the files from the mesh to your device. Instead it creates a virtual folder which you still need some form of connection (WiFi/3G) to access. On the other hand files which are already on your device e.g. photos/ videos/ music/ office documents etc. are automatically synchronized to the mesh.
Really liking it!

Actually you can map any folder from the cloud to the phone using "Synchronize folder to device" option from the menu. Or you can take an existing folder on the phone and sync it with the cloud using the "add existing folder" option from the menu.

I like it too, very nice for sharing/syncing music/cabs/pics with my htc touch

Sweet - it is exciting to see some of these devices beginning to meshing together. Sweet indeed!

i've been using live mesh for a while now and absolutely love it! not only can i sync any folder between computers and phone (my mac now as well?) but i can copy and paste between them and access one through the other just like "go to my pc" or "pc anywhere".
