Yeah, the
Bold's out in pretty much every country recognized by the United Nations at this point, but to attention-starved Americans, we can only say this: it's new to you. Unlike the
Epix, AT&T has spared RIM's latest and greatest full QWERTY handset from any over-the-top carrier branding, opting for a tiny logo at the bottom of the shell and letting the gorgeous industrial design speak for itself. We're not typically BlackBerry people, but we've got to admit -- this thing feels solid, substantial, and generally just great in the hand, and we can see how you'd feel lost without it in no time. Oh, and yes, everything you've heard about the display is true -- it's insanely crisp, bright, and easy on the eyes. We'll have a more thorough look at the AT&T version of the Bold in the not-too-distant future, but in the meantime, enjoy some photography, won't you?

Dear RIM, Apple, and Palm -
ICON-BASED HOME SCREENS ARE BORING
HTC figured this out, why can't you?
chickenator @ Oct 31st 2008 9:31AM
GUIs ARE BORING.
I WANT COMMAND-LINE ONLY ON MY PHONE
or better yet give me physical rotary dialer on my phone. i don't want physical buttons or virtual rotary dialer.
helixtimestwo @ Oct 31st 2008 12:43PM
I'm not saying get rid of icons altogether, but it's not very imaginative to simply have them row after row.
This applies more to the Apple and Palm devices than the small-screened Bold, but the BB Storm home screen is lame.
Why not mix in a larger clock? Or use the empty space for a current weather graphic/picture slideshow/news feed?
mariocdl @ Oct 31st 2008 10:43AM
My dad got one of these yesterday, my main gripe is why is the back leather? Couldn't they have just made it abit thinner as its not the thinnest device ive held.
k4ffy @ Oct 31st 2008 8:31AM
when is this available?
MRCUR @ Oct 31st 2008 8:47AM
Tuesday, the 4th.
Goonfeld @ Oct 31st 2008 8:35AM
boring... plus does anyone else suffer from a minor mental block when faced with a screen of icons? I get that momentary "..is that an icon of a microwave? a TV? a sofa?" kinda feeling, before I finally decide to click thru
cl347bv @ Oct 31st 2008 8:43AM
i prefer the icon themes on blackberries. I would make my dumb phones and my WM 6.1 phone do it too if i could write XML well enough to create a shell UI like Point UI.
but i cant. so i use the standard icon theme on my 7250 when i use it, and i make my pn-820 have a list of the start screen instead of the grid, cause it shows more icons. makes me feel smarter for some reason
drumdbeat @ Oct 31st 2008 8:44AM
Yeah, i get that too... if only for part of a second...
DisgruntledIT @ Oct 31st 2008 8:45AM
True crackberry addicts can't be phased my mere icons....
DisgruntledIT @ Oct 31st 2008 8:37AM
Mmmmmm.... Blackberry goodness......... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
MRCUR @ Oct 31st 2008 8:48AM
I can't wait to get mine Tuesday. I've been waiting for a few months now since I returned my second broken iPhone 3G. I'm currently using an original iPhone which is also beginning to die...
Thomas @ Nov 4th 2008 10:13PM
After you get the BlackBerry Bold . Would you like to sell your iPhone. If so how much for iPhone?
Thanks
bob sakamano @ Oct 31st 2008 8:51AM

igepard @ Oct 31st 2008 9:47AM

want to meet up and be cool and go look at gadgets togetha?
Neil @ Oct 31st 2008 9:59AM
AT&T never fails to suck all the joy and beauty out of the packaging of our gadgets. Every time that I see those orange boxes I feel sad. I know that the box is supposed to convey that this phone is to be used on the AT&T network, and AT&T is fine and all as a carrier, but they need to take a back seat. To steal from Hillary Clinton "It's the phones stupid".

what is the one thing that makes you think look so last millenium? I got one of these, it is just great. I can type without looking. iPhone fanboys
SP @ Oct 31st 2008 10:07AM
Is there ANY hope of Sprint getting any of the new Blackberries in the next few months? >:- |
Between their 1-2 year lag on new BBs and now the idiocy shown by the CEO to downplay the importance of the G1, I'm really considering switching providers
Mike @ Oct 31st 2008 10:39AM
Will the Bold ever come to Verizon???????????
Andrew T. @ Oct 31st 2008 10:46AM
I don't think so, after the Storm I think CDMA (Verizon, Telus, Bell) will get the CDMA version of the Javelin (Niagra?) Haven't heard anything about a CDMA Bold and would be surprised if there is one. Other than the form factor, the Javelin and Niagra will have very similar specs to the Bold so don't see why there would be a CDMA Bold. I could be wrong though.
richard @ Oct 31st 2008 12:15PM
Festivus for the rest of us!
Ryan C @ Oct 31st 2008 1:10PM
It looks like a really good phone. I wasn't really considering this as one of the phones I'd get when I upgrade, but I might have to add it to my list.
haX0r @ Oct 31st 2008 2:24PM
Can't wait to test this out next week. Price point better drop to $199 in the U.S. before I'll consider buying one though.
TDG01 @ Oct 31st 2008 2:56PM
Does anyone know if this version of blackberry has threaded SMS? I've kinda gotten hooked on it on WinMo 6.1....
I.B4x @ Oct 31st 2008 5:59PM
jesus, you're just getting this now?
KRG @ Nov 1st 2008 3:09PM
Nice, but can you change the depth of field on the camera used in this unboxing to avoid the blurriness of the close-up shots?
Chris Ziegler @ Nov 1st 2008 3:29PM
Yeah, normally would've liked to stop it down quite a bit, but I was dealing with a really low-light situation unfortunately!
ran @ Nov 17th 2008 10:16AM
Yes a keyboard is Z under the S!
