Garmin reaffirms 1H 2009 shipment of nuvifone
Man, a lot -- a lot -- has happened in the mobile space since Garmin went public with its then-mesmerizing nüvifone. Nearly a year later, it's become but a blip on the radar behind the Touch HD, G1, XPERIA X1 and iPhone 3G. Nevertheless, Garmin has come out and reaffirmed that the long-awaited handset will actually not be delayed once more, and that the "first half of 2009" shipping estimate is still valid. Let's just say that $500+ price tag we saw floating around back in May better be substantially lower whenever this thing finally gets around to hitting up a store shelf.

I was a big supporter when this thing was announced. I have since moved on. Development has taken to long and the design already looks long in the tooth.
The software would have to be outstanding and the price point incredible for this device to work out for Garmin.

I agree completely. I was ready to ditch my TomTom GO and sign up right then. GPS prices for cheap units are really, well, cheap and SPCS, VZ, & ATTWS have all got their own branded systems (I used ATT Navigator until I found out they used Teleatlas maps - after I was directed to drive up a stairway that replaced a road...).
I'll keep my iPhone (a new gift) - maybe I'd give up my VZ 755p when Garmin puts out a CDMA version when it comes out!

yeah, the design is looking ancient. i'd take a m8 over this.

And to think, I would have bought one of these had they not been delayed. Now, the BB Storm will have my $$$. And basically will have the same functionality with the simultaneous voice / data capability. Good job Nuvi.

Yup, missed their window. Too bad for Garmin.
