Pantech Slate starts trickling into AT&T stores, beauty not included

Personally, we're feeling that gray version we saw a few days ago more than the retail trim of black and blue, but either way, there's one thing Pantech didn't manage to squeeze into the Slate's supposedly world's-thinnest QWERTY shell: good looks. Or are we just feeling particularly jaded today, and this is actually the most attractive phone of 2008? Physical design aside, the Slate packs a pretty powerful textual punch for its sub-$50 price point on contract, so we'll let it slide -- we just don't expect to see many screen grabs with this thing.

Well, you've got to admit they included a wealth of ugly...in fact, it's a ton of ugly for under $50.

Worst part is beyond the look. It has a 1.3 meg pix camera but no sd slot.

Im glad the phone companies are making phones like this so people dont have to buy their kids black jacks, tilts, and iphones just to text. it pains me to see a parent buying a child an iphone 3g.

but yes it is dumb when kids buy smartphones just for a keyboard and then return it cuz it confuses them

it has no card slot and the screen is small.

I COMPLETELY DISAGREE
i think this black and blue one is wayyy better than the gray one.
(and it was announced before the gray was seen in the wild)
i mean, its still a does-nothing-at-all-but-call-and-text phone.
but i think the silver made it look like such a cheap ass Q wannabe.

im too lazy to check, but if this does email (& internet) too then it makes the peek pointless.
$100 + $20/mo for an email only peek
or
$50 + $10/mo for an additional phone line + $15/mo for unlimited internet and email
for $5 extra per month you get internet + a phone and the device is half the price

I like it. It's SLIM. LIGHTWEIGHT , nice size screen, has bluetooth, nice camera, 1.3, nice video, nice and easy QWERTY board, ear sound very good, great battery life, blue and black color is nice (better than the gray) simple to use phone. Pantech targeted 11-16 year olds but I'm 45, all I do is text (not talk) and I love it for the price. only 2 things they coulda added:: 1.Mp3 player and SD card slot , 2. Speakerphone. Otherwise....great phone.
