Samsung's i907 Epix filtering into AT&T stores
We've gotten a number of reports today that the Samsung i907 Epix is turning up in sundry AT&T stores across the lands, and those claims are certainly backed up by a fresh retail unboxing of Sammy's WinMo 6.1 Professional monster for AT&T that's turned up over on Boy Genius Report. "Monster" is the right word here, too, in light of Mr. Genius' claims that the Epix seems to be just about the thickest device offered by the carrier outside the beastly Tilt -- not the news we wanted to hear about a QWERTY handset that looks from a distance to be no more imposing than a BlackJack. The optical mouse is cool, don't get us wrong, but is it cool enough to justify a conspicuous bulge in our pocket?

Seriously, is it THAT hard to include bluetooth? Seriously, AT&T. There are currently only two phones--the Tilt and iPhone--that I can think of that have WiFi. Is there a fear you have of WiFi? Did it pants you in front of that pretty neighbor girl (and/or guy ;-) ) on that harsh winter's evenin'?
Give me some damn WiFi.

Now I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure the lack of Wi-Fi is the fault of Samsung, not ATT.

i belive it has both of the things u mentioned. check it out:

Nope, all AT&T's doing. And what Engadget predicted has come true.

I somehow feel the need to blame it on them.
Thanks a lot, guys.
(Jk, you know I loves y'all. *gives hug...except for _that_ creepy guy in the corner*)

Wow, I had no idea I said bluetooth. I certainly didn't mean that. But it certainly doesn't have WiFi (or the person who puts the specs on the box is a delinquent....or I can't read and it's probably clearly listed on the box.)

Look at the dates the comments were made and look at the time the Epix was released.
These comments were made before it was officially released so I was going on information that was released.
That's wtf I'm talking about.

Now the release of the i907 when will the Omnia (Mirage) drop? Any ideas?
Trying to hold out for one. 8525 touchscreen is on the fritz on my last nerve.
Nick @ Oct 20th 2008 11:37PM
and from what has been across the net I thought the i907 was the AT&T/US version of the i900/Omnia not the i780
Joe @ Oct 21st 2008 1:37AM
Correction: This is AT&T's version of the Omnia .. (Mirage) .. the AT&T navigator installs the "Mirage" version and that is the internal codename @ AT&T.
This phone DOES have WiFi regardless of what the box says, I have it in my hands right now.
Included are the kickass mouse, GPS, Wifi, 3g (HSPA), microSD, windows 6.1 pro, a stylus .. and best of all - it's pretty much the same size, thickness as the Blackjack II.
Not quite sure why you all are giving it a bunch of shit, because this phone is hella nice.. and isn't That big for a phone - not to mention a phone that does all the functions of a Tilt and then some.
I should also mention I work for AT&T.

I made a mistake and put Omnia, the Omnia is a completely separate phone and I think someone didn't match the codenames correctly - because THIS device is codenamed the Mirage, not the i900.
I have no information as to when or if AT&T will be getting the Omnia / i900
cortez @ Oct 21st 2008 2:53AM
is the Epix available in corporate stores right now? i'd like to check it out. if it's indeed very close to the size of the Blackjack II, i think that's a good thing for a QWERTY PPC phone. i'm in need of a business QWERTY device right now.

According to the specs on Mobiletechreview, the Epix is .51" thick. I that considered a "bulge?"

Sweet little unit. I can surf on the 3G band when I am out and about, Wi-Fi at home and at Starbucks. Bluetooth syncing with Windows Mobile Device Center, and also be hands-free in my car with my Motorola bluetooth device which patches the audio through my stereo speakers. I haven't attached the unit to USB yet, no need to, completely wireless. All my personal email accounts work perfectly - Yahoo, Comcast, and Windows Live. My work emails, contacts and calendar update all day (unlimited Internet plan) via an Outlook HTTP server from work, no need to even get the AT&T 'Business Email' option. I watch movies stored on my Mini-SD, listen to gigabytes of music - also on the Mini-SD. I even have live television (MobiTV, which broadcasts about 20+ channels) when I am waiting in lines at the supermarket, having a cup of coffee at work breaks, and also when sports events are a 'must see' and I am not anywhere a TV. I use the qwerty keypad for texting and replying to emails, and I use the touch screen to move around the Windows Mobile 6.1 panels. The mouse is the best on the market - it moves 1:1 with your finger movements, no more LT-RT-UP-DOWN action. Smooth! I don't bring my Magellan in the car anymore because the GPS Navigator works great. I also like the Windows Live Search application - I can utilize the voice command and recognition features to find places when I am driving around, truly hands-free. Battery life is awesome! I almost got an iPhone, but for the price, $224.00 (order online and you get an additional discount), and the features, the iPhone costs way too much and I have all the cool features that match or exceed what the iPhone can do. Get one of these! It has 'everything' and is very user friendly. btw - anyone know where I can get the Windows Mobile 6.1 'Slider Theme'? I saw the video on the Microsoft Site for the 'Slider' functions and it way too cool.
