T-Mobile's G1 presales aren't "even close" to 1.5M

A source close to the situation has chimed in to tell us that T-Mobile's G1 presales -- while very strong, and seemingly making the carrier and HTC very happy campers -- are nowhere near the 1.5 million figure being randomly spouted off by Motley Fool. We don't have an exact figure, but to put things in perspective, it took 74 days of real, actual sales for Apple to hit a million iPhones -- which like the G1 numbers here, counted the US market alone. Real question is, what percentage of the presales have been for that crazy brown model, eh?

I got the brown! I have had nothing but black phones since I started this crazy obsession, I wanted something a different.

I agree, whats wrong with the brown?
every other damn phone out there is black.
only thing im not too fond of is the grey background on the qwerty. that black on black looks too slick.
oh well, ill just buy the black one for my girlfriend and switch sims when i go to a fancy party when i gotta wear a tux.

First of all... I'm on the TMobile site - I don't see a Brown one anywhere?
Second... Looks like a cool phone. Some features iPhone doesn't have...
but TMobile - if you want to compete, ya gotta have the coverage! And coverage you don't have. Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, Alltel, USCellular - all well covered in my area. TMobile nowhere to be found - and I'm not in the boonies.

Brown isn't too bad when done right. I haven't been able to trust the pictures online to see whether the brown was a respectable shade or not but for now I can afford to trust that Google did okay since I have no intention of getting the G1 anyway. (Waiting for Android on Sprint)
I agree though, It's time for something Other than Black, although black is still welcomed.
