New Verizon rebate form lists Samsung Omnia, i770 "Saga"
And now a little bit of news out of our "straight out of left field" department: Verizon's apparently getting the Omnia. We've spent so long trying to will a North American HSDPA-equipped version of Samsung's WinMo superphone into existence that we totally failed to consider the possibility of an EV-DO-equipped version materializing first, and sure enough, Verizon's latest rebate form lists an Omnia. We suppose it's possible that this'll somehow be watered down from its international equivalent, but we hope both Samsung and Big Red are smart enough to launch an unfettered, honest-to-goodness CDMA translation of the mighty 5-megapixel original.
Separately, we noticed a Samsung Saga listed on there, did a little Googling, and Wirefly seems convinced that the long-rumored global WinMo QWERTY i770 is going to be called the "Saga." So yeah, that settles that.

I will take an Omnia with a slide out keyboard like my i760 or the Touch Pro please.

wait I just noticed that wirefly did not list the i770 as a world phone, when the rumors were?

So yeah the 5mp camera will be staying, just so you know. The model I saw in a meeting still had that onboard, couldn't imagine them changing it.

played with the i770, and i hated the optical mouse thingy. i didnt get the chance to mess with it for an extended period of time, so it might be awesome beyond compare, but i doubt it. i like the form factor, very blackjack/Q
but the omnia is aparently going to be the best thing since sliced bread. a buddy in the company got to play with a tester, and he was very much impressed with it.
and i cant wait for the omnia. it will be nice to have something smaller than my i760

The Omnia has been listed under the Upcoming Phones tab for Verizon on Phonearena for a while now.

I believe a Samsung "i910" with EV-DO has been blogged about for awhile now. This is probably the same device?

I got to play with my friend's who's testing it for samsung and this this is great. I can deal with winmo and the touchwiz onboard makes for a fun phone. the model he had still had wifi but he said that verizon would likely take that off. but they did keep it with the i760 so who knows

Verizon doesn't change wifi on a device, the manufacturer does. Also, the test unit I've seen, is not crippled in any way. This device should be out around thanksgiving.

And the Mogul, but like all CDMA carriers they took off wi-fi off the Touch.

Wow, I was not expecting this at all! Well Samsung, you've got a sale coming from me because I'm buying this instead of the BlackBerry Storm now.

Yep, the VZW Omnia is pretty sexy. The OS still needs a little work, but it's not bad for a WM platform...
I just wished it had the 3.5mm headphone jack instead of the proprietary plug :(

Anyone know if the i770 will have an iR port?
izzy3 @ Oct 13th 2008 10:39PM
does anyone know if the omnia might come to at&t?
Hasgoth @ Oct 27th 2008 1:17AM
phonearena.com lists the omnia without WiFi. Of course their information is "preliminary" and "subject to change", so I hope they're wrong.
Personally, if the Omnia from Verizon comes with everything it has over seas except WiFi, I'm still gonna buy it.
