Firefox Mobile for Windows Mobile screenshots emerge, excitement builds
What else can we say? Sure, 2010 is a long ways out, but you knew good and well alpha / beta versions of Firefox Mobile would emerge long before then, right? Here we have the first living proof that Firefox Mobile (or Fennec, as it were) is alive and well for Windows Mobile, albeit in decidedly alpha form. Currently, the browser is managing an 88 out of 100 on the strenuous Acid3 test, which surely ain't bad for a handset-stricken browser. Hit the read link for a few more looks, and cross your fingers for a beta release sooner rather than later.

With Opera and Skyfire, why are we so excited about FireFox mobile?
Not that I mind of course, diversity and options is always good in my book.

because competition is what makes products better, while opera is good it has nothing on skyfire....and you can't get skyfire on blackberry's. so that's why we need firefox...now if only they'll get a blackberry version going

This is all well and good, but, what sort of assplow waits for the biggest players to actually push out full fledged Os's before they even consider a mobile browser? Will google, apple, or MS care? Will anyone even go to the trouble of installing OPERA on their mobile phone? People want to just get things moving, and going through the trouble is for the dweebs like us.

Wait.
What are you talking about?

Well, with all the progress Firefox has made on desktops, we can only hope that their success may jump over to the mobile platforms. Hopefully not limited to Windows Mobile, but maybe Palm, Nokia, iPhone, or other smartphone operating systems. I know as an iPhone user, I am aching for an alternative to Safari, even though my experience with Safari has been good. I would like to see what new features and innovations Firefox can bring...maybe mobile plugins?
Nah...it's a stretch.
ByronGman @ Oct 12th 2008 10:52PM
Ha...
Plugins for FF on the Iphone?
You think that would fly with Apple?
