its purdy but nobody's going to buy it. It could be jesus himself in a mobile phone but SE waited to long to introduce something like this. It doesn't compete with the blackberry or iphone, its bigger than both and will probably be more expensive, do less and won't have some sort of store which seems to be the popular thing. SE's goin down, I'd shed a tear but i'm guessing their marketing people will do that for me.
How does it do LESS o_o than those other phones? ANY smart phone will do more than the iphone lol. I'd say the X1 would be about even with the high end blackberries in terms of what they can do. Oh wait, I guess the iphone does have the advantage of a accelerometer... but then the X1 has the better camera, hardware, build quality, actual keyboard, better screen, MMS capability, full bluetooth functionality, and hopefully good signal :P
Last I checked, the X1 isnt much thicker than the iphone, and probably the same thickness as the storm from pics ive seen. I'm just guessing though, I havent looked at dimension specs.
Im not so sure bout the app store thing.. Android is the only one doing it properly anyway. SE's success in this area will be based on how many devs bother to make panels and then if SE decides to centralize them in a more integrated way (right now, all of the panels are just available for DL on SE's site, or will be soon anyway).
Ok here's the thing Nipple, none, of that matters. It may have a better camera (which it doesn't cuz its an htc cam not a carl zeis) it may be within millimeters in thickness, it could have better hardware or worse, or candy drops instead, none of it matters. They waited to late. The mobile phone marked has nothing to do with who's phones the thinest anymore, who's is faster, who's has a better camera, whos can stand up and line dance, its all marketing as illustrated by the iPhone. there were many other phones out when the iphone originally came out that were better than it and yet, it triumphed over them. There are still many good smart phones out there, most of them by htc (which is of course the same as the x1) yet the blackberry and the iphone are the top two that people buy.
Do you see what I'm saying, I don't have anything against the X1, i actually like SE as a company and their products, but they waited to long, they no longer can gain a place worthy, in the market. Even that new google phone with its mass number of early adopters and os 3 years in the making will have trouble gaining market share. Do you get it? you don't do you?
Dylan, how can you speak for everyone? Personally for me the situation is reversed. I waited for 1 and a half year for Iphone to be released in my country and I have finally gotten sick of it. Xperia looks great on paper and the reviews so far are great. It has way more features than the Iphone. And I am so over the Iphone now. Even though I can most probably get an unlocked Iphone from HongKong for about the same price as Xperia now, I am not going to.
I know way too many who have been waiting for Xperia - they had the option to get the Iphone but they didn't. So don't base your arguments on how you feel about something. You can't speak for everyone.
I don't see why they still can't get a market share. I have looked at all the smart phones ... coming out this year and Xperia beats them all with its specs IMO. And for me it is the specs that are important as I am just sick of getting phones that lack one or the other feature that I want.
Stuff that Iphone does not have and Xperia does: 1. Bluetooth 2. Video Recording 3. Battery Replacement Option 4. Physical Keyboard 5. 800x600 resolution 6. MMS 7. Memory expansion slot
and I'm sure there are more but some of the above are just so basic. How can you have a phone without MMS capability? Even the crappiest models have bluetooth inbuilt nowadays. IPhone looks amazing but lacks some very basic feature not to mention as far as I am concerned they are way too late and way too closed with their carrier policy.
Dylan, you're obviously NOT a power user and obviously have little to no experience with Windows Mobile. No one in their right mind would ever compare an iPhone to a Windows Mobile Professional device, feature for feature...it makes no sense. The iPhone is a fashion statement, a gimmick. I was one person hoping that the iPhone 3G would address the plethora of shortcomings on the iphone as I love the iPhone UI...and it didn't. From it's comparitively weak application set to good hardware hobbled by Apple's restricive licensing and software application, once you get past the fancy UI you cannot on any level compare an iPhone to a WinMo device. I've had 3 business partners take the iPhone plunge and return their units within months (okay, one gave his iPhone to his wife instead of return it) and get Blackberry (1 guy) and WinMobile (2 guys). Enterprise users would rather use a Blackberry or WinMo over an iPhone anyday. Techies (especially those in networking and tech-admin) would use a WinMobile device over an iPhone anyday.
Want to know what I did with my Kaiser (WinMobile) a week or so ago? Client called to say he needed a quick change to a button graphic on his website but I was not at my desk but in a hotel lobby. He emailed me the server info, I quickly fired up and downloaded the necessary files via Resco FTP, made the quick change using Pocket Artist 3 (good photoshop clone) and because I was having trouble reconnecting with the server I emailed him the necessary file to upload. From network admin to quickly editing a small website graphic, these are things a power-user uses his device for, not just pinching the screen to make it zoom in and out (and even THAT isn't an Apple innovation...the Safari browser's zoom feature set was first flawlessly impemented YEARS ago on a Windows Mobile browser: anyone remember Picsel?).

But it's not meant to be an iPhone killer. It's supposed to be WinMo done right...
