HTC's first WiMAX-enabled handset revealed: T8290, from Russia with Speed
With Sprint snagging the vast majority of the WiMAX limelight of late, we aren't going to complain with a similar network halfway across the globe yanking it back. Out of absolutely nowhere comes HTC's first WiMAX-enabled handset, the sure-to-be-delightful T8290. Reportedly, this bugger packs a 3.8-inch 800 x 480 resolution display, 802.11g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, GSM and WiMAX radios and is expected to launch soon on Russia's Yota. Granted, we can't take this as hard truth or anything quite yet, but the images that reside in the read link are more than convincing. Oh, and HTC -- given that you're passing on the US with the Touch HD, do you think it'd be possible to get this over here for use with XOHM? We'd really, really appreciate it.

I can't wait to find out that it's not coming to the US!
/sarcasm :(

But it has GSM too- Sprint's probably not going to be OK with that.

Don't be surprised if Sprint chooses a device with a GSM radio. They already have dual CDMA/GSM devices, and tout them as global phones. But without CDMA...
WHY WON'T T-MOBILEUSA PLEASE JUST BUY SPRINT ALREADY?!?

Brian, what would you do with it in US? In Russia Yota service, according to their web site only covers Moscow and St Peterburg, two biggest cities. I checked St peterbourg coverage map and found that the suburb I used to live in is not covered at all. This device is useless without a good coverage network. Do you have it in US?

The US has a growing WiMax Network through Sprint/Clearwire called Xohm. It's already launched, with new cities added constantly. Its also suspected if the free national broadband initiative are approved, it will use WiMax. I wonder what frequency it operates under, or if it also has WCDMA too. The US WiMax frequency is 2.5 GHz.
