TechFaith hard at work on Android device, not saying who it's for just yet
Manufacturer TechFaith flexes some serious ODM muscle in its native China, slapping together phones for a variety of name brands -- including Open Handset Alliance member Motorola. It's a curious coincidence, then, that TechFaith is running its mouth right now about crafting an Android-powered device that it expects to be ready for end users sometime in early '09. For the moment, the company's official line is that it's "still in talks with several interested customers" and expects to make an announcement about which company will be lucky enough to silkscreen its logo onto TechFaith's hard work at the end of November. With Android being a bit of a hot commodity right now, we can totally see any number of companies engaged in a bidding war here -- but unless Moto has something ready to go, like, yesterday, it sure seems like working with TechFaith now to get something out of the door on the double could be the right move. I cant wait till those geniuses at xda rip a real android OS.. I got the super beta working on my mogul an its damn good.. the browser is safari quality easy... can recieve an send calls and text.. its very limited tho more of a showoff than a useful OS right now google maps, calculator, alarm clock and a few more things work so its very basic.. whats promising is the Mogul runs it with ease... Hurry up and release G1!!!!

Is that a full install or the tech demo that runs in memory? If it's a full install do you have a link to how you got that up and running? XDA Devs or something? I've got a Mogul and have been checking every so often for just such a thing.

Its a lil bit of both actually.. You boot up windows as normal and then you boot android on top of it. The only way to end android is a soft reset. If you have free time or are serious about switching I would check it out. This version is not made for the mogul so the keyboard does not type. it doesnt switch to landscape, and the touch screen is not good, there is an on screen keyboard.. But knowing that it wasnt made for my phone it would only take 20-30 solid apps and this would kill safari and windows mobile.. period no room for discussion.. The simplicity of the Iphone plus the customization and freedom of windows equals android.
One simple touch is there is no mms program, but obviously if you try to add a picture to a sms it is now a mms. They are totally different on the carrier level but to the end user they are almost the same, so in Android its almost the same to send them.
ps I would reccomend JD's rom for the mogul and than add manilla 2d, my mogul looks very similar to the Touch Pro now and runs it easily. check ppcgeeks
