A reasonably attractive pair of phones that have been in the wings for a while now on Verizon are finally hitting next week -- October 6, to be exact. The Motorola
VU30 Rapture is the first of the pair, a glossy flip set to do battle with Sprint's
VE20 featuring a 2-megapixel camera, touch-sensitive external display (Verizon calls it "vanishing"), GPS, and EV-DO for $179.99 on a two-year contract or $299.99 with no Hancock required. Next, we have the Samsung u650
Sway, a silvery slider coming in at 0.47 inches thick and a feature list eerily reminiscent of the VU30's, right down to the 2-megapixel cam -- though EV-DO is strangely missing, as far as we can tell. Where they got the name "Sway" for a slider, though, is beyond us. Look for this one to run $119.99 on a two-year, $239.99 contract-free.

does the sway not have ev-do?
Chris Ziegler @ Sep 30th 2008 11:38PM
It does. Spec sheet (in the gallery) says as much.

Whoops, no it doesn't! My bad!

The phone is 1xrtt only, spec sheet shows vcast with rhapsody subscription and pc downloads just like the juke. So no vcast on the phone. Strange a phone wouldn't include 3g data but would be centered as a music phone.

Wow, agreed. At $120, I'd assumed we were looking at EV-DO here. A quick check of the FCC certification seems to confirm no 3G also.

That's pathetic.
Overall, the thing looks like a pretty nice little device, super slim. Too bad they had to give it the kiss of death.

I don't really mind. The only thing I use internet for is sending pictures and videos, which I don't do often. I still love this phone...new UI! w00t!

That new RAZR is waaaaaay overpriced. I would pay 100 dollars for that, maybe 130, but I can find another slim flip phone with a 2 megapixel camera and live without the "vanishing display". Geez Verizon.

P.S. Remember when the Samsung Gleam was 150 dollars at the beginning of the month, or around there? Shya...50 dollars now. In two months the RAZR will be free on 2 years.

The First Thing That Came In My Mind: "Damn...These Are Some Hot Phones"

So does this mean that the Samsung also has a touch display? It looks like a nice phone, but If so, that's a dealbreaker.

I think that the term "sway" refers to the music player.
