Apple has released the first beta of iPhone firmware 2.2 to developers, and we're hearing that it'll cause your phone to sprout wings, run
Android in emulation, connect to fully-operational LTE and WiMAX networks all over the world, and bring world peace. Oh, and it'll be able to copy and paste things you never dreamed possible, like ponies and happiness. On a more serious note, though, no one seems to have a firm grip on exactly what it adds yet --
push notifications are high on the wishlist, as always -- so we'll keep you posted (and you do the same).

We have been waiting Apple for turn by turn navigation!?! WTH is their deal with that? Most phones either work with something like, telenav, copilot or tomtom. If they added that I would gladly ditch my BB8310. Until then I agree with McLovin!

Please add push notification. I really want to be alerted of an IM on AIM when I'm not in the AIM application.

Jailbroken iPhones can already do video, and I really don't give a rat's ass about MMS.
Taylor @ Sep 28th 2008 1:07PM
jailbroken phones can do MMS too!

You can sort-of get around the iPhone's lack of MMS capability by emailing your target cell phone's email address. You can usually find the address format on the carrier's website. It is by no means ideal or a perfect replacement, but it works well enough.

I just installed 2.2 Beta 1 (5G26) - So far, my AT&T 2.6 in v2.1 is now AT&T 2.8 :-)
Stability is a lot smoother. I think it's all bug fixes & Push Notification framework (invisible at this point).
FireFish @ Sep 27th 2008 3:50AM
Also, Modem version has been upgraded from 2.1.

I just want one thing for my iPhone, and that's the ability to watch videos in Flash format.

Uchhh. Don't even ask. I had a bad feeling about 2.2.1. That's why I restored it to my Wife's phone, not mine.
Overall, major performance improvements. However, Maps doesn't work & worst of all, I can't get it back to 2.1.x because of a major baseband update in the upgrade process from 2.1.x to 2.2.x.

I'm screwed. LOL
