Mozilla's Firefox mobile kinda gets announced, release date sometime in 2010

Well the mobile browser world will likely be in for some serious churn now that Mozilla's Firefox, codenamed "Fennec", is throwing its hat into the ring. Mozilla's Tristan Nitot commented that not only is the mobile browser in the works, but that its expected to arrive for Windows Mobile, Symbian, and Linux. Though, the rub here is that we'll need to wait until sometime in 2010 to see this live, and honestly, we may have HTC handsets integrated into our minds well before then. Oh, while we used a pretty pic of Firefox hugging on the iPhone, don't hold out any hope that it'll actually arrive for that device -- that goes for Android too, sadly -- we just thought the colors look kinda nice together

If Android uses a version of Chrome, that'll be just as good as Firefox Mobile.
Commiserations on the extremely cynical use of an iPhone mention in this story, by the way, Engadget.

If you insisting on using the iPhone even when its not really relevant, how about actually having a picture that illustrates the situation?

agree with you 100%. With Android, WM 7 and whatever else my come around this time the mobile phone industry could take a huge turn.

Didn't people say that when Netscape went out of business & Internet Explorer won the 1st round of desktop browser war 10 years ago? And didn't Firefox kicked everyone's sleeping a** when it came out?
Right now its between PIE & Opera Mobile on the mobile platform. PIE is only for Windows Mobile while Opera Mobile isn't free (though it has a free version but it ain't anywhere near real deal).
I think that when Mozilla's mobile browser will come in the market (expect a few name changes, it was called Minimo till a few days back, don't think current name of Fennec will stick) it will bring a kind of revolution. And I think Opera will be forced to change their business policy & offer the browser for free (like they ended up doing with desktop version).

Apple would refuse Firefox mobile on the App Store anyway as it competes with Safari.
