If
history is destined to repeat itself, it stands to reason that Alltel would be getting ready to follow Sprint down HTC's golden road yet again, does it not? This time around, of course, the devices in question would be the
Touch Diamond and
Touch Pro -- and we just so happen to have been presented with a shot of what appears to be an Alltel-branded Touch Pro doing its thing on a tastefully contemporary laminate surface somewhere. Word is that it'll launch "soon" after the Diamond does, making
Verizon look all that much sillier that we haven't heard an official peep out of 'em. Can't be shown up by your new acquisition, can you, guys?
[Thanks,
Brandon A.]
Update: More pictures
have popped up, so this thing's definitely looking legit. 'Grats, Alltel subscribers -- it's like winning the lottery! Thanks, Mills!

Man, when is Telus in Canada going to make an announcement on the Pro. They were first in North America with the Diamond, and usually have a first in North America exclusive on every new HTC handset, but not a peep out of them on the Pro!?

The question I'd love Engadget Mobile to answer, is whether or not Alltel is going to receive the watered down "step-child" variant of the Touch Pro that Verizon is rumored to be getting, or are they going to get the Power House version that Sprint is carrying?
Mills @ Sep 18th 2008 2:17PM
The version in the picture and the version that alltel will be carrying is the pimped out fully loaded version.
I know because I took that picture...

Hey, I don't doubt your word one bit, but give me some background info on you so I can tell the guys back at ppcgeeks why your claim is "credible." Do you work for Alltel? How did you come by the phone, are you a beta tester? What is the release date? Can you give any specs on the phone? Processor, memory (ram/rom), storage, gyro-sensor, etc..? Thanks in advance for the info, and if you blow me off, thanks for the teaser photo anyway~ ;-P
Mills @ Sep 18th 2008 4:06PM
kc, ill post on ppcgeeks in that thread some more info. or at least what i have, unfortunately, the phones dont always come with a "dont sell by" sticker :)
ill post it in the thread here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=37373
is that the thread youre talking about?
kc @ Sep 18th 2008 4:51PM
Yeah, that's the one! They like to chase rabbits and get off topic over there, but that thread is/was the discussion topic of if & when Alltel is getting the Touch Pro. Thanks man, I appreciate it.

No way... Alltel gets a decent CDMA touchscreen smart phone in a relatively quick fashion? I'll believe it when I see it - and then upgrade from my crusty old Mogul. Please let it bet true...

As an employee I can confirm that it's coming. In fact a tip was given weeks ago but never saw anything posted. Unfortunately I can't give you a launch cause I'm wondering that myself. Nothing official so far except 4Q.
kitman @ Sep 25th 2008 12:58PM
Have you heard if the HTC HD might come to Alltel?
Looks like a nice one.
Anon.Amous @ Sep 19th 2008 9:51AM
As a Treo 700wx user (with a cooked 6.0 ROM) I'm looking forward to SOMETHING else. I worry the Touch Pro is a little too small. That screen seems itty bitty next to the Touch's already small screen size.

I meant as an Alltel 700wx user...

My brother works for Altell and says the touch Pro should be out next month (Oct)
and it will be fully loaded. Also says it should only run about 200.
