BlackBerry Thunder caught on video, with a ninja

BREW Ninja, who readily (and oddly for a ninja) enough admits that he's a mobile QA engineer over at Yahoo! Mobile, just scooped 3x phones in this quickie 4 and half minute video. The HTC Coke -- a variant of the HTC Touch Pro -- and tiny LG Lotus (AKA, LX600) with full QWERTY for Sprint are both interesting, but it's the hands-on video of RIM's touchscreen Thunder that blows our doors. At about 2:50 in, he reveals the BlackBerry Thunder for Verizon saying, "I don't like it, it's, it's an ok phone." His biggest concern seems to be the touchscreen (something we've heard before) which acts like a button -- you have to actual push the screen, hard, unlike most capacitive touchpanel devices. I disagree with ninja's review of the thunder. I used the keyboard to type in a few mails and found the
'screen as a button' trick to bring the user's typing experience close to what you'd expect with all the blackberry devices. without this trick typing on a thunder would be the same as on any other full touch screen devices such as the iphone, instinct etc. when you press the screen you know the key has been typed because of the click and you don't have to confirm that the character is printed on the screen.... saves a few milliseconds which when you type hundreds of emails a week adds up. also, this is much much better than the tactile feedback only option on other devices... frankly i find the tactile feedback to be annoying.

my only concern would be with the durability of the screen when it is pressed as a button hundreds of thousands of times.

hasn't anyone noticed that the BLackberry Storm's design looks A LOT like the Samsung's I730 without the antenna? and looks to be a little wider? http://farm1.static.flickr.com/47/132708222_4cdf21ad2d.jpg

So the only grief i have, is with the call quality, the rounded bottom makes it hard for the receiving caller to hear you. Ive have the i730 for a few years now and ive almost have to be screaming for some people to hear me on it.
I am looking forward to ggetting the storm though. just showing the similarities in the design.

It sounds like the localized haptic feedback that was rumored to be on this phone is really one big depressible screen. I would prefer adding localized haptic feedback to an iPhone-like keyboard. Sort of like the feedback received with the buttons on the front of a razr cell phone.
