iPhone 2.1 software update announced (update: $10 for iPod touch owners)

P.S. No mention of copy and paste.
Update: 2.1 will be available for iPod touch owners for $10. Come on, you didn't really expect it to be free did you? There's a "buy now" button at the end of that link but it only downloads v2.0 at the moment.

Remember not to upgrade right away if your iPhone is Jailbroken or Unlocked: http://www.iphone-hacks.com/2008/09/09/iphone-21-to-be-available-friday-september-12/

From the bottom of that page:
"*If you’ve already upgraded to the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch, the 2.1 update is free."
Just before your 'Update' makes people think they'll be paying for it if they have 2.0.

You need to read the * at the bottom of the iPod Touch 2.1 update info page.
*If you’ve already upgraded to the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch, the 2.1 update is free.
So it is only $9.95 if you haven't updated to 2.0 yet.

But who's that in the purple shirt?
kookoobirdz @ Sep 9th 2008 5:34PM
It seems shitty to charge Touchers for updates. I mean it's bug fixes, right? They ought to give rebates!
Erick @ Sep 9th 2008 6:35PM
Rebates? Don't you mean Apple Store credit?
iahrley @ Sep 9th 2008 7:40PM
2.1 is free, if you paid for 2.0. And 2.0 wasn't just bug fixes but functionality additions.

I saw nothing about Push notification. I'm really hoping that they didn't talk about it because it's more an iPhone feature and not because they are delaying it indefinitely.

Only apple could charge for the same software twice. Seriously can't wait for the day people pay $10 for copy and paste.
Chris @ Sep 10th 2008 7:25AM
Ill pay anything to not have to us MS mobile!

Fools (myself among them) have been paying $20-$30 for a WinMo 'X = Close App' function for close to a decade.
MrAllenU @ Sep 12th 2008 2:37AM
I'm disappointed there are not more fixes than the ones that are said to be included, but I still cannot wait for this software update to my iPhone. This will hopefully make the overall experience much more enjoyable.
I have started a chat for the update for anyone who can't wait, like myself, on AIM chat; http://chat.aim.com/chats/news/iphone-21-firmware-campout
