Velocity Mobile details its WinMo skin
Following a spring handset announcement, Inventec buddy Velocity Mobile is now ready to get into the nitty gritty about the software it has thrown together to cover up Windows Mobile's ancient roots. The interface looks a good deal like the early build we'd seen before, but with a bit more spit and polish -- and Velocity is quick to point out (as it always has been) that the UI can be seamlessly updated over the air without so much as troubling the user with a PC sync. We'd still take TouchFLO 3D over this, but does it beat the stock WinMo 6.1 look? That's an unqualified "yes."

Umm...yeah...this does look familiar. It looks like WinMo with a bigger clock and a row of icons at the bottom. I fail to see how apple did any work here...but your name is Apple Rep, so you must have an informed and unbiased opinion on this topic.

Gawd, it's like talking to a religious zealot. I mean, how do you even get to work? Apple doesn't make cars. Yet.

I was thinking more along the lines of Blackberry's Bold UI. They have icons on the bottom of the screen.

Lets get somethings straight here,
First of all its pretty hard to make a post about any mobile phone UI without someone chiming in how they've copied apple in some way or another. I realize you like your phone, and I admit its a nice UI, it isnt amazingly original though, so stop squeaking everytime someone uses icons or screen transitions, or text for gods sake.
Second, and more importantly, there are only a certain number of things Winmo can do, thats becoming obvious by the similarity between different networks attempts to refresh look.
I admire their effort, but i cant help feeling like Velocitys effort here is just another skin, and the initial flashiness will wear off once I open a program and move away from the today screen.
The online demo is pretty nice, I would like to see some shots of phone navigation away from the main screen though. Got to give em Kudos for finally including a tap friendly task manager, I'm sure i'm not the only one with fingers too big to hit the close program x in the upper right corner.

I agree on it being just another skin. One thing I wish these companies would do is to skin the important programs like Outlook as well. If TouchFlo 3D or this were to "slick up" the most commonly used programs a bit, you'd hardly see WinMo. I don't mind it, but it's by no means slick. It should be sort of like other OSes that are really just built on UNIX but look all slick...talk about doing all the work in the tech world.
