Don't worry, you throng of dual-band Samsung smartphone fanboys and girls out there -- Verizon hasn't forgotten about you. It's been a little while since we've heard anything about the
i770, but a new slide shows that Big Red's positioning it (or trying to, anyway) for Q3 availability, which just happens to be the very quarter that we're currently in. It features GPS, quadband GSM (which is strange -- typically Verizon's dual-band devices only do GSM on non-North American bands), WiFi, a 2-megapixel camera, EV-DO, and possibly biometric security, though that particular feature is currently marked down as "tbd." Next up in the global stable is the
u810, a stylish clamshell with a microSD slot, 2-megapixel cam, and not bloody much else -- not really a great choice for the globetrotting businessperson, so Verizon might have the frequent pleasure traveler in mind here.

YES!!! Quadband GSM! And verizon does that whole "unlocked phone" thing so maybe you could put prepaid SIM in there! w00t!

Verizon locks their "Worldphones" down to Vodaphone. Lame.

but, you can have any of the VZW global devices unlocked, (with the exception of the i830) by contacting the global team, and they will hcarge you the difference of what you paid for the phone and the full retail price, or they will provide it to you upon your completion of the contract that you signed when you received a subsidy for the device.

the i770 looks a lot uglier in a clearer picture. Is that a WinMo?
gareth @ Aug 27th 2008 12:05PM
Hmm, I'm loving the Specs of the i770 but hating the look. It looks quote a bit like a fisher price toy. One of the reasons I've been looking for a Winmo phone on Verizons network is that I hate their ugly OS's they throw on their phones. Now they're making the outside as ugly as the inside.
In all seriousness does anyone know the dimensions of this phone?

Its a CDMA thing
Treo 800w CDMA
Treo Pro GSM
Samsung i770 CDMA
Sansung i780 GSM
GSM just looks better.
n @ Aug 27th 2008 1:23PM
Does anyone know if Verizon will release the Treo 800w soon?

im wondering the same thing. my Q9c keeps dying on me. i had a Q9m for 6 months until it died finally, took it back and they gave me a Q9c which i have had to master reset 5 times in the month i've had it. im just waiting until the 800w comes out so i can go cause a fuss and see if they can give me that instead, or at least a discount. come on Verizon! lets get it done already.

No EDGE on the i770 is a big mistake. If you aren't going to include 3GSM, you at least need EDGE.

Interesting to see Verizon offer so many devices (2) and phones (2) with QUADBAND GSM, and/or TRIBAND UMTS/HSPA.
Unfortunately - to the poster above - Verizon locks its GSM side down to a SIM card provided by Verizon that allows roaming preferred on Vodafone (outside Voda areas, its whomever it will have in the internal PRL). Good luck unlocking this, or getting Verizon to unlock the phone for you.
Does anyone think this might be Verizons way to make an effort to appease Voda, and its investment in a converting GSM network - rather then convert the network, make it so Verizon and Voda are starting to be 100% compatible (at least for North American users). Or do you think it has something to do with prepping people for an LTE technology by getting them used to the GSM side of things. Anyone think Verizon will start to claim they are/have the biggest area with these GSM enabled devices - since you KNOW they will roam agree with AT&T and T-Mobile?

As time goes on it becomes cheaper and cheaper to add GSM radios. If you think about it their really isn't much difference between a CDMA2000 phone having GSM and a UMTS phone having GSM.

What happened to the Motorola Napolean? That Samsung looks way to big for my taste, and I'd rather have windows mobile non-professional (touchscreens are a pita imo). But, i will buy the damn thing on day 1 because i'm sick of not having a phone when i travel outside the us.
