Verizon pulls pit bull LG Dare commercial after PETA bombardment

Say what you will about PETA's beliefs, but if there's one thing that group proves, it's that there is power in numbers. Verizon Wireless had been fairly adamant that it would continue airing its pit bull ad for the LG Dare -- which shows a pair of the dogs chained up in a junkyard guarding heaps of metal and a misplaced handset -- but after PETA issued an "action alert" that triggered 7,000 emails to the outfit's CEO, its tune changed. For those longing to waste another 30 seconds of their life watching the spot that will never again air on the small screen, click on past the break.

I love it when people like Backbeat are confronted with an argument, rather than hear out what the other person has to say they resort to putting the person down as some monster that makes flowers wilt, children cry and birds fall from the sky simply because they don't see things their way.

it was a lame advert anyway, didn't make sense. i mean, the dogs were chained away from the phone. how daring is that? should of had them off the chains, then the dude could have run in and out real quick-like to avoid being bitten. the commercial would have made better sense, and PETA wouldn't be bitching. it's a win-win really.

I believe the dare is in the chance that the chain may or may not be long enough for the dog to get to the phone. Just like in trust/dare situations like bungee jumping, too much rope = death.

@backbeat: maybe its hard for you're little miniscule mind to comprehend that people chain up their dogs so: a) they aren't running through the neighborhood getting hit by cars b) they aren't running through the neighborhood attacking other people... but maybe you live in a fantasy world where all dogs are perfect and would never be stupid enough to run in front of traffic or mean enough to attack a human. Pet animals are considered property by the law, and the owner is liable for that animal's actions...People like you who would put animals above humans make me sick.

Peta needs to be boycotted. They say that they are all about saving animals when they KILL more cats and dogs than they save.
Go to www.petakillsanimals.com for the Real truth. They were on trial for "adopting" animals and then euthanizing the animals in a van and throwing the animals in a dumpster. They also have an industrial freezer a their headquarters for this reason. The head of Peta also has been quoted as saying "If curing Aids would cause the death of one animal, we would be against it." WTF!!!

i think the issue was, and i had customer calls about this, is that the commercial depicts pitbulls as vicious dogs, when they are not always like that, PETA is trying to change the view that people have of the pit, and the commercial reinforced the vicious dog stereotype...i get it, but seriously...i am an animal lover, and i do put my dogs on the same level as people, for they are living breathing lives, that deserve as much love and attention as anyone else...but, i dont always agree with PETA....

Stewed Dog (wedding style)
Recipe By : Joe Sweeney
Serving Size : 30 Preparation Time :3:00
Categories : Ethnic Pit bull
Philippines
Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
3 kg dog meat -- * see note
1 1/2 cups vinegar
60 peppercorns -- crushed
6 tablespoons salt
12 cloves garlic -- crushed
1/2 cup cooking oil
6 cups onion -- sliced
3 cups tomato sauce
10 cups boiling water
6 cups red pepper -- cut into strips
6 pieces bay leaf
1 teaspoon tabasco sauce
1 1/2 cups liver spread -- ** see note
1 whole fresh pineapple -- cut 1/2 inch thick
1. First, kill a medium sized dog, then burn off the fur over a hot fire.
2. Carefully remove the skin while still warm and set aside for later (may be
used in other recpies)
3. Cut meat into 1″ cubes. Marinade meat in mixture of vinegar, peppercorn,
salt and garlic for 2 hours.
4. Fry meat in oil using a large wok over an open fire, then add onions and
chopped pineapple and suate until tender.
5. Pour in tomato sauce and boiling water, add green peper, bay leaf and
tobasco.
6. Cover and simmer over warm coals until meat is tender. Blend in liver spread
and cook for additional 5-7 minutes.
* you can substiture lamb for dog. The taste is similar, but not as pungent.
** smooth liver pate will do as well.

NOTES : During my wedding reception, my brother- in-law suggested we add to the
feast by having dog stew. Wanting to be part of the family, and having been
subjected to all sorts of socials tests already, I agreed. The result was...
well.. a lot better than I expected. In fact, it was great!
It was only later I found out that dog should *not* be served at weddings, as
it may make the bride and groom flight like dogs during the honeymoon. But what
the heck. It didn't seem to have that effect... at least not until a few year
later. :-)
For the faint of heart, you can always substitute lamb in place of next door's
rover, but the meat will not be as sweet or as rich in flavor.

Here's PETA's latest attempt to get you to stop eating meat.
"His struggles and cries are ignored ... the man with the knife shows no emotion ... the victim is slaughtered and his head cut off ... his flesh is eaten," reads the ad posted on the PETA site.

They apologized but that's still no excuse to use a terrible event to get people to stop eating fucking meat.
