T-Mobile 3G is live in Vegas, baby
That's right, kids, T-Mobile launched 3G data in Vegas this morning. The 1700MHz AWS 3G network went live for phones that can hit the UMTS 3G data stream, and if your phone is one of those, you may want to look for the pretty little icon and start doing some Intertron browsing. T-Mobile still expects to hit another 20 markets this year (along with some new handsets), so if you're not in Sin City, be patient -- 3G is coming.

YES, 3G in 20 markets. I cant wait to use my smartphone for .....o wait. It only took TMO forever to get up to 3g speed, look for 1st 3g smartphones sometime 2037.
Silverbladef @ Aug 6th 2008 11:37AM
Does it frequency work on North American phones only or european and asian phones?
monterey86 @ Aug 6th 2008 12:32PM
Silverblade - That's the rub. You can't just use a standard european or US 3G phone and pop in your SIM. That will only get you EDGE as they usually just support 1900 or 2100. So you need to get one of the phones manufactured for T-Mobile US.
Razor1973 @ Aug 6th 2008 2:03PM
That is, if your phone even supports EDGE. ;)

"you may want to look for the pretty little icon..."
I could be wrong but I thought T-Mo didn't have any such icons on any of their phones yet. The handful that do AWS right now are voice-only dumbphones and, according to what I've read, don't give you any visual indication that you're connected to their 3G network, as opposed to the old one.

You would think that T-Mobile would want to supply us with some adequate 3g phones as they're rolling out the network, but they only those 5 crappy phones available. The Shadow 2 is not supposed to be 3g, and neither is the Blackberry Javelin or Kickstart. What are we supposed to do?
I love T-Mobile. I hate T-Mobile. I love T-Mobile. I hate T-Mobile.
zerocalories @ Aug 7th 2008 1:31AM
agreed, let's see some phones T-Mobile!
oliver hart @ Aug 6th 2008 5:03PM
i just talked to tmobile and they said they would have a 3G capable BlackBerry coming in december to accomodate the network, also a new htc device that isnt the shadow 2.
Galen20K @ Aug 6th 2008 6:12PM
Correct! The Blackberry BOld is Indeed coming out for T-Mobile this year, 3G Support INCLUDED so dont let anybody lie to you about that Javelin crap!

I'm from Houston, and I was in the mall a couple of days ago. And my t-mobile showed 3G for about a good 4 minutes
frank @ Aug 7th 2008 1:02AM
Could you be more specific? I'm nearly certain that none of the phones currently available from T-Mobile can tell you if you're 3G'in it or not.

I live in Vegas, have had T-Mobile for years, and have been waiting for 3G for a LONG time. Almost headed to AT&T for the iPhone.
What phones does T-Mobile offer with 3G? What speeds are people seeing?
oliver hart @ Aug 6th 2008 10:05PM
i send a tip into engadget about some stuff i found out today but didnt get a reply from them. 3G is coming to minneapolis in a few weeks and other cities before october and they wont have it to all the 20 markets until the end of the year. im just going to keep calling tmobile until i find a rep that will dish out all the good stuff about the upcoming events. ill repost in here if i find anything more.
im sure that most people know this, but if you keep calling your carriers customer service line and bitch or pretend to be an idiot, eventually theyll give you what you want or tell you what you want to hear. i love how everytime you call back its a different person in a different part of the country.
Myke @ Aug 7th 2008 1:40AM
Frank, I have a nokia n95. Its unlocked not a t-mobile locked phone
Freddy2Fred @ Aug 7th 2008 12:36PM
I just switch to AT&T recently and the speed is crazy. But I was wondering. Is T-Mobile gonna have 3G Voice and Data like AT&T?
James @ Aug 7th 2008 4:50PM
What is the difference between 2100mhz american and 2100mhz european for T-Mobile? It does not make since T-mobile a German Company would have their costumers come from Europe not to have 3G services's available.
Justin Haygood @ Aug 30th 2008 1:43AM
T-Mobile USA is 1700 MHz for 3G
