Steve made a big show of announcing that the iPhone 3G would launch in 70 countries by the end of the year at WWDC, and according to CFO Tim Cook during Apple's last financial call, 20 more countries will join the list on August 22 for a total of 45. With that date just a couple weeks away, things are starting to fall into place, although not all 20 are confirmed yet. Here's a quick breakdown of the 16 confirmed countries so far -- any bets on what the other four will be?
- Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru and Uruguay on Telefonica
- India on Bharti Airtel and Vodafone
- The Czech Republic on O2
- Estonia on EMT
- Poland on Orange and Era
- Romania on Orange
- Philippines on Globe Telecom
- Hungary on T-Mobile
- Singapore on Singtel

Vodafone has the launch date as 22nd August in India.
Airtel is said to be launching only on the 2nd of September.
Vodafone seems to be getting priority because of its international connections.

Awesome News. Any news the pricing details in these countries? N yeah, i too heard Bharti Airtel will launch 15 days after Vodafone in India. So maybe Airtel is one of the 4!
Tuhin @ Aug 7th 2008 8:33AM
The pricing hasnt really been announced just yet. Vodafone is being tight lipped about it. They are looking to keep any kind of pricing policy away from Airtel's ears.
Word is that the 8gb version will run about 20000 INR and the 16gb an additional 5-6000.
Bhavin @ Aug 7th 2008 7:04AM
Nope. Airtel's not one of them... its already posted a page on its site... Its coming on August 22nd .... http://www.airtel.in/iphone3g/
Tuhin @ Aug 7th 2008 8:31AM
Thats what it says on the website but the guys from the industry are saying that Vodafone will get about 10 days lead time on Airtel which means Airtel will only launch on the 2nd.

I hope that Croatia is in the list of those four countries, man, I'm dying to get that thing for ages, since the first iPhone hit the market! I even went to the States to buy one, but they were so damn expensive! I returned empty-handed, while I watched other people smudge that screen. But, still, I'm happy with my SE P1i.:D

The launch carrier in Argentina is Claro and not Movistar
lgrunauer1 @ Aug 7th 2008 10:02AM
Ecuador is getting it from Porta from America Movil as well. Porta and Movistar (from Telefonica) are the two largest carriers and are launching it the same day.
